5 Beauty Wonders

5 Beauty WondersWhen the winter months come around, it can wreak havoc on even the healthiest of skin. So we asked experts in the field of health and beauty products and normal girls like you and me what they simply cannot live without when the temperatures drop, the drying air of heaters begins to blow and chapped lips and skin are a daily battle. Here are the 5 top picks and what they can do to help you look and feel your best until the sun shines once again.

1. Root booster. “I spray root booster on my hair from my scalp to about one inch up into my hair. I massage it in just a little for extra moisturizing and then blow-dry upside down. My hair gets so flat in the winter. It used to be a daily fight to get any body or hold. By the end of the day I looked like I’d fallen out of bed and gone to work. Once I started using root booster, that all changed. It adds volume, hold and it protects against heat damage from styling.”

2. Why boost only your hair? How about your skin? “To keep my delicate and sensitive skin healthy during the cold months, I’ve found that cleansing and scrubbing it with a very gentle exfoliant scrub really preps it for the boost that a night serum filled with antioxidants and nutrients provides. If you have dry skin that is prone to outbreaks and eczema like mine, you have to be so careful what you put on it. By gently removing the dead skin and pollutants every night I keep my skin safer and smoother. Night serums are perfect because they get uninterrupted time to do their job.”

3. “I use a skin mister all day long during the winter. I found while I was traveling in Switzerland, but they sell this stuff everywhere. I buy mine in the same scent as my body wash. It’s just like a fine mist of water, but it evaporates almost instantly and never smears or smudges your makeup. It restores the pH of your skin so I use it on my face, neck, arms and legs – any skin that’s bare gets a spritz. My skin never gets ashy or cracked now.”

4. Lip balm and lip exfoliant. “I know that everyone and their grandma carry this stuff [lip balm], but I found that when I use one that’s 95% natural and pair it with a lip exfoliant it works wonders. First I gently rub the exfoliant in circles all along my lips. I use a warm, soft washcloth to remove it and then quickly apply the balm. My lips stay soft and never crack. Lipstick stays on longer and doesn’t crease. I do this once every other day.”

5. “For me, the beauty product to top all beauty products is still the eyelash curler. In the winter, your eyelashes also suffer from the cold and dry air. When neglect them, it shows. Rather, it shows when you don’t’ neglect them and they look amazing. My secret is to wipe my lashes with the face moisturizer that’s left on my hands. Then I immediately curl them at the base and hold for 15 seconds. Lashes are glossier, more flexible and they don’t clump like dry lashes do.
