Coordinate your Closet
One of the first steps in back-to-school preparations is to revisit how to pare down the morning routine to get yourself and your kids out the door without looking like you just rolled out of bed. Now is the time to coordinate a few outfits in your wardrobe that will make dressing a cinch and leave you without a good reason to shimmy into that warm-up suit to hit the car pool lane. You don’t have to dress to the nines, but finding a few comfy ensembles that will look polished and put together will allow you to greet your children’s teachers and other parents with confidence and style.
Try a New Do
The end of summer might be the perfect time to experiment with a new hair style to get you back on the school track looking updated and chic. When you head to the salon, talk to your stylist about a do that will offer you ease and versatility on those mornings when schedules are tight – like when your daughter informs you at breakfast that she needs three dozen cupcakes by 10:00 that morning. Stock up on a few headbands and other fun accessories that will allow you to keep that hair stylish without spending too much time in the morning getting it just so.
Practice Speed Makeup
Most moms find that makeup does not have to be elaborate for the time spent inside the school building. Still, a covering of foundation, some quick magic with a concealing stick and a bit of powder and blush can do wonders. Feel free to forgo the eyeshadow on the busier mornings, but don’t neglect your lashes with a coat of mascara to give your eyes definition and attention. Assemble the essentials in a single container so that you are not left hunting for an item in the midst of the typical morning chaos.
Plan a Spa Day
If you are too caught up in the back-to-school flurry to give yourself any extra attention, wait until classes are back in session and then treat yourself to your own home spa day. Set up a pampering facial, and take time to give yourself a luxurious manicure and pedicure treatment. Soak in a tub, read a great novel and listen to your favorite tunes. There is surely no better way to celebrate the start of a school year than with some serious self indulgence as you take back your house during the day.
After a summer of t-shirts and makeup-free days, back to school season is the perfect time to fine tune your own beauty routine. A little bit of effort will help you to hit the car pool lane looking good and feeling great!
