Beauty Tools: What You Want and How to Find Them

Beauty Tools: What You Want and How to Find ThemThere is a hidden treasure of beauty products and it’s probably not too far from where you’re already shopping. Beauty supply stores are often overlooked because they don’t seem trendy enough or because they have so many products that the novice has no idea where to start. The last may very well be true, but the first couldn’t be farther from it. In fact, many of the experts wouldn’t waster their time shopping anywhere else. Here’s why…

Hairstylists Jim Crawford and Nunzio Saviano say that they find their best buys and just what they want at beauty supply stores. They carry items that you will never find in drug stores or even in high end salons. The sales people are usually very knowledgeable about the products they carry and can often even repair your hair dryers and other electrical beauty tools.

Top picks for these guys are tourmaline and ceramic ion hair dryers. They are less harsh on your hair and don’t frizz hair like normal dryers do. Super heating curling and flat irons. They are ready to go in a snap and get hotter than normal irons. Of course, buyer, beware. Ask questions and lots of them before you buy products in beauty supply stores. The directions are often vague and the products often much stronger than store brands designed for at home use. Other beauty tools they love are metal-core Velcro rollers. These are hard to find, but so valuable as the metal heats when you set and then blow dry resulting great curls that set well and last. Another benefit to these stores is that they carry every imaginable hairclip, tie, twist and elastic know to man. You can find much better ponytail options at beauty supply stores.

When it comes to makeup and cosmetic tools, you’ll find more than you ever dreamed of in these small, unnoticed stores. Makeup artists buy items like non-latex sponges, which blend more evenly than latex, in bulk. They also love the wide variety of empty makeup cases that store all your makeup or just enough for a small touch up kit. You’ll find fake eyelashes in a variety that will make your head spin. More favs: glitter in every color and pencils in colors you’ve never even seen before. If you’ve always wanted to try sea foam green on your eyes, head to a beauty supply store. The products are often much less expensive and the variety is amazing. You’ll also find tools like brush cleaner, lash curlers and the perfect pair of tweezers. Perhaps the best thing about these stores is the brand you’ve never heard of that happens to be the best foundation, concealer or salt scrub you’ve ever used. The down side is that you can never be sure that what you loved this week will be on the shelf next time you’re shopping. If you see something you want to try, you’ve got to buy it.
