How to Choose the Right Razor for Female Skin

How to Choose the Right Razor for Female SkinFor women who shave, finding the right razor is just like finding the right car - youíve got to find one that fits your needs and that you can deal with on a daily basis. If waxing and other types of depilatories donít work for you, you can always rely on the tried and true razor to get your hair removal needs taken care of.

When it comes to choosing which type of razor will work best for you, there are a few to choose from, all with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. With the growing technology, you can now choose from electric razors as well as non-electric razors.

Electric Razors

Using an electric razor may be the answer to your hair removal needs. Just as there are different types of regular shaving razors, there are a few options in the electric razor department as well. It just all depends on what you need and what you are willing to pay for. Most electric razors are rechargeable and since many women shave in the shower on a daily basis, the majority of electric razors are waterproof so you can handle your business without worrying about electrocuting yourself. While some donít require water or shaving gel, those with sensitive skin can find electric razors that are compatible with both water and gel. This type of razor is ideal for those who travel frequently and need a good and reliable razor at their fingertips or if you only have a few minutes to squeeze in a quick shave without taking a shower or bath. One of the drawbacks of using an electric razor is its inability to get a close enough shave in certain areas, such as the knees or chin. If used incorrectly, you can possibly get a nick or two with an electric razor but this is rare. Electric razors can also carry a hefty price - one that many people may not want to spend. However, there are different price ranges so choose accordingly.

Non-Electric Razors

If youíd rather stick to traditional razors, thereís a few to choose from as well. For first-time shavers, using a razor with a safety blade is your best bet. Until you can get used to grazing a razor across your skin - no matter what area of the body - it helps to have a razor that will cut down on the number of nicks and cuts you can get. There are many razors on the market that offer guard wires to prevent the blades from coming in too close to the skin. Guard wires also prevent the occurrence of razor burns, which appear as red bumps on the skin.

Traditional razors are the type that can be used over and over by changing the head of the razor and do not need to be thrown away. While a little more expensive, traditional razors often come built with comfort grips and special features such as a flexible head to fit the contours of where you are shaving. These types of razors are good for getting a smooth and close shave every time. Disposable razors allow you to use them a few times and then toss the entire thing and use a new one so you donít have the hassle of buying and replacing the head of the razor. Disposable razors are usually inexpensive and get just as close of a shave as a traditional razor. Many come with special strips that add moisture to the skin while shaving to avoid razor burns and cuts. These are ideal for those with sensitive skin.
