Essential Tools for Beautiful Nails

Essential Tools for Beautiful NailsPerfectly polished, beautiful nails; we see them on the hands of women and even men who take pride in their appearance. They are the essential to every great beauty routine and can show a great deal about you. But to get those beautiful nails the right tools for the job are a must.

Your most common but essential tools you will need are:

A nail brush used to scrub away any dirt on, around and underneath your fingernails. Nail brushes come in a variety of styles and colors and brush fibers.

A basin of warm water used to soak your nails and soften your cuticles. This is just about the only tool you probably won’t need to purchase unless you just want to.

Cotton balls or pads to remove any existing polish already on your nails. Try to find cotton balls or pads made from natural cotton since synthetic cotton tends to stick to the nail bed and leave behind a frustrating mess. If you’d like there are also individual pre-soaked polish remover pads for quick and easy removal of polish with less mess. There are also polish remover pens, but these can be a hassle if you enjoy shades like red since they can stain the pen and cause it to be ineffective.

A wooden, also known as an orange cuticle stick to gently push back your cuticles. Wooden cuticle sticks are also ideal for removing any excess polish you might have gotten on your cuticles without ruining your perfectly polished nails. And for those interested in purchasing a longer lasting cuticle tool, there are metal and plastic cuticle sticks equipped with rubber tips.

A nail file or fine to medium grit emery board to create the shape of your choosing. While there are many types of emery boards and files available, it is usually recommended by most professional nail salons to avoid using a metal nail file since these can roughen nails and cause them to become fragile and weak. If you’re interested in purchasing a nail file that will last longer than an emery board, there are natural jeweled nail files such as ruby that are wonderful on nails and washable.

A nail buffer for gently smoothing over any rough spots from shaping and ridges in your nail bed. Be sure that the buffer is fine grit to prevent thin and weak nails. Nail buffers come in many colors shapes and sizes to suit your needs.

Nail clippers or scissors to trim nails to desired length if necessary. Nail clippers that were once a simple design can now be found in many styles and colors to coordinate with your nail accessories.

Cuticle trimmers to trim any excess cuticle from your nail bed, but if you choose to purchase these use caution as cutting cuticles can lead to infection. Cuticle trimmers typically come in one simple design, but many different colors.

All of the tools above can usually be found at your local beauty supplier or drugstore at a generally reasonable price.

One last note: Please keep in mind that nails are not tools. Using them to pull staples or scraping dried residue from dishes will only lead to chipped or broken nails. But if you take great care of them it will only lead to beautiful nails.
