Homemade Makeup Brush Cleaning Solutions

Homemade Makeup Brush Cleaning SolutionsMaintaining a makeup brush collection may seem easier than done but if you really want your makeup tools to last the test of time, it is essential to take the steps necessary to keep them in the best condition. What many women do not realize right away is that neglecting their makeup brushes not only causes them to deteriorate in quality over time, it also affects the appearance of the makeup when using these tools.

In general, when it comes to cleaning makeup brushes, some women prefer to spend money on special cleaning solutions, which can be purchased at any makeup counter or drugstore. While such products are specially formulated to keep brushes at their best, having such an item is not mandatory. There is plenty of homemade brush cleaning solutions that women can turn to. The good thing about using a homemade cleaning solution is the fact that it helps people save money and the ingredients used can be easily found around the house.

There is no official homemade makeup brush cleaning solution that you have to choose from. The solutions listed below all effectively get your brushes clean, removes dirt, leftover makeup and bacteria and will condition the bristles so that they allow your makeup to go on smooth with each use. Experiment with each solution and see which one works best for you.

Homemade Cleaning Solution #1: Take a paper towel sheet and place it on the counter. Pour a small amount of olive oil (extra virgin) onto the paper towel. Swirl the makeup brushes in the olive oil using circular motions. Afterwards, rinse each brush under lukewarm water, while gently rubbing the ends of the bristles with your fingertips. Next, put a drop of baby shampoo in your palm and swirl the brush in this solution, also using circular motions. Rinse again with lukewarm water and dry the brush using a paper towel to squeeze the excess water out. Shape the tip of the brush with your fingertips and lay each brush out on a dry, clean towel, which should be placed on a flat surface.

Homemade Cleaning Solution #2: For a quicker, less involved solution for cleaning your makeup brushes, regular baby wipes are ideal. Simply swirl the brushes on the surface of the wipes until you see the excess makeup residue come off and then give the bristles a final wipe down with the unused portion of the wipes. This solution is ideal for large brushes, such as the ones used for applying blush and powder.

Homemade Cleaning Solution #3: To clean and disinfect your makeup brushes, create a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water, then dip each brush in and then rinse in lukewarm water. Dry using a paper towel and lay out on a flat surface to dry.

Homemade Cleaning Solution #4: Do you have a gentle facial cleanser that you love? You can also use this same product to clean your brushes. Put a few drops of cleanser in the palm of your hand and swirl each brush in the facial cleanser using circular motions. Then rinse with lukewarm water.

Homemade Cleaning Solution #5: Just as you can clean your brushes using facial cleanser, you can also use any regular shampoo. Just make sure it is a gentle formula.
