Makeup Tool Must-Haves for Freelance Models

Makeup Tool Must-Haves for Freelance ModelsFreelance modeling is one way to break into the modeling world without the need for committing to a modeling agency and contract. Not all models are supermodels and there are tons of freelancers that regularly get work that allows them to make decent side income in addition to their regular job or to help them pay for school. While this type of modeling does give you more freedom and control, it does come with some downsides, including being responsible for your own hair and makeup at times.

Even though not all freelance models will have access to a makeup artist and hair stylist during their shoots, it is still possible to take care of these factors yourself and still look amazing in front of the camera. All freelance models should have a makeup bag filled with essential makeup products and tools to help achieve a professional look. If you have yet to put together such a bag, you’ll want to make note of the following must-have items:

Foundation, concealer and powder: These three items alone can create a complexion that is even in tone, youthful and picture-perfect. Make sure you visit a makeup counter and have one of the professionals help you choose the right shades so that your colors blend seamlessly into your natural skin color.

Eyelash curler, eyeliner and mascara: Whether you’re doing a fashion themed shoot or a beauty shoot, your face is among the first things people will notice when they look at your pictures. When your eye area is taken care of, it can have a great impact on the rest of the look. Using an eyelash curler will open up the eye area and create bigger, doe-eyed peepers. Learn how to line your eyes in different ways, from dramatic to a softer, more natural look. Don’t go overboard with the mascara and if you need to pump up the volume invest in a few pairs of fun and flirty false lashes.

Brushes: If you want your makeup application to look professional, you’ll need the right brushes to pull it off. You should never use one makeup brush to apply all of your makeup. Each brush is created for a purpose so make sure you have the following: angled brush, large brush (for powder and blush), lip liner brush and a regular sized brush you can use to apply your foundation and/or concealer.

Tweezers and brow scissors: Having clean and well groomed brows are a must. Showing up to a shoot with unruly hairs or strays can ruin an otherwise perfect shot. If you don’t have time to get your brows cleaned up professionally, carry tweezers in your makeup bag to pluck unsightly stragglers and bring along brow scissors to easily trim any unruly hairs.
