Tips for Successful Shopping
When you begin shopping for a hair dryer, the most important thing is to understand the differences between products so you don’t spend more money than you need to. Keep the following things in mind when shopping:
·
There are some exceptions, but for the most part, dryers with at least 1,800 watts are going to operate the best.
·
Airflow is also important to get great airflow, look for a long-life motor and a removable air intake grill and filter. Keep the filter clean to ensure the best airflow.
·
If you have curly hair, you will need a dryer that includes a diffuser for softer airflow, eliminating frizz. A diffuser is also great for creating extra body to fine hair.
·
You’ll also want to find a dryer with multiple heat settings - most will have 4-6 settings.
·
Make sure the dryer you choose has a “cool shot” button, used to blast your hair with a dose of cold hair to help set your style.
·
Anther basic necessity is a nozzle attachment with is used to concentrate air flow, for more intense airflow.
The price you ultimately pay for a hair dryer will be entirely dependent on what you need your blow dryer for.
Inexpensive Blow Dryers ($5-$20)
This is not the best option for anyone who regularly uses a blow dryer. Inexpensive blowers usually have only one or two settings for heat, leaving your hair vulnerable to damage caused by over-heating. If you have short hair or only use a dryer to quickly get the drying process started, one of these inexpensive dryers will probably be just fine. Just remember - you get what you pay for.
Moderately expensive hair dryers ($20 to $80)
These blow dryers will work for most people. Generally, they will contain all the elements already mentioned such as heat settings and cool buttons. Some even use newer technologies normally found in professional dryers, such as iconic and ceramic energy (see below).
Professional hair dryers ($80 to $100-plus)
Found at beauty salons, supply shops and professional catalogs. These hairdryers should be thought of
more as an investment. Yes, they cost more, but they will last you longer. Overall, if you are willing to spend the money, these hairdryers have a lot to offer. For starters, they are much quieter than less expensive dryers. Many also offer new drying technologies mentioned earlier - ionic and ceramic energy - that will literally cut your drying time in half. They also promote healthier hair by infusing moisture, causing only minimal damage to the hair cuticle. If you are someone who straightens your hair often, professional hairdryers may be the most beneficial to you because they have much more horsepower than commercial models.
Hopefully this guide gives you an idea of what type of blow dryer you are in the market for. Remember, the most important thing is to know what your specific needs are. Now, comes the fun part - time to go shopping!
