What’s in your Manicure Drawer? Supplies to Keep on Hand

What’s in your Manicure Drawer? Supplies to Keep on HandA home manicure can be a fun and inexpensive way to indulge in some self-pampering. But before you get out that polish, make sure that you are well prepared for the entire process with a well-stocked manicure drawer. The basic manicure supplies are easy to find at any drug store, and will help you to manage every nail crisis as well as give yourself a complete home manicure. While it may seem like there are a number of supplies to collect for a home manicure at the beginning, most of these tools will not cost much and will last you a long time.

Basic Nail Care Tools

The first manicure supplies that you will want to have on hand are the tools that you will use for basic nail care. Even if you never get into the polishing action, basic manicure tools will ensure that your fingers stay neat, clean and well groomed. The first manicure tool that everyone should own is a nail clipper. This is good for keeping nails short, clipping ragged ends and removing tags from new pieces of clothing in a pinch. Another basic necessity is an emery board that you will use to file the ends of your nails nice and smooth, and shape them in the form that you desire. Emery boards come in a wide variety of fun styles and colors, but they all serve the same purpose – unless making a fashion statement is another function that you want to use them for.

An orange stick is a tool that comes with a padded and slanted tip that is used to gently push your cuticles back into place. Since well groomed cuticles will equal well manicured nails, you will definitely want to keep at least one of these sticks in your manicure stash. Nail scissors are also a good idea to have on hand, particularly if you prefer using these to the nail clippers. Last but not least, you will want to have a good supply of cotton balls, or simple cotton pads if you have an aversion to the lint that cotton balls can leave.

Fun Stuff

There are the basic tools that are very important, and then there is the fun stuff that is much more entertaining to shop for. First on this list is nail polish, in any and every color that you like. To accompany nail polish, you will need to have a bottle of polish remover, to eliminate those neon nails when you finally decide that fuchsia is not your color after all. The safest polishes will not include formaldehyde in their ingredient list, and the best polish removers are usually acetone free to keep from drying your nails out. It is also a good idea to arm yourself with a base coat and a quick dry top coat to add a professional finish to your home manicure.

Home manicures can be a fun way to add a bit of glam to your fingers with very little cost. With a well-stocked manicure drawer you will be ready to dress up those nails any time.
