Beauty Rules You Can Break

Beauty Rules You Can BreakRules are meant to be broken sometimes and makeup rules are no exception. Forget worrying about if you’re following the rules or not and break out of the mold. By always following the rulebook you may be missing out on some fun and out-of-the-box makeup looks. So stop being scared and learn how to experiment by doing exactly what you shouldn’t be doing.

Tweezing your eyebrows is a must for clean and sexy looking brows. However, you may or may not have heard of the makeup rule stating that you should never tweeze above your eyebrows. Whoever came up with that rule must have never had to deal with unruly upper brow hairs! There is nothing wrong at all with tweezing above your eyebrows. Women who have excess facial hair in this area can get relief from removing such hairs. Not only that, but properly removing hair from above the eyebrows can create better definition and shape overall. Too many stragglers above your eyebrows can cause the illusion of a funky shadow. If you want to take care of your brows yourself at home, simply use a white eye liner to lightly trace the natural shape of your eyebrows. Now look into the mirror closely. Any hairs that appear outside of the line you’ve drawn above your eyebrows should be removed. Be sure to use a good pair of tweezers. If there is too much hair to deal with or if you’re afraid of messing it up, seek the assistance of a professional.

When it comes to blush, many women stick to the age-old rule that blush is only supposed to be applied to the apples of your cheeks. This rule is mostly for women with oval face shapes. However, if you have a round, heart-shaped or square face shape, you can branch out. Round face shapes can try applying their blush along the cheekbones and using their brush to gently sweep the color up towards the temples. Heart-shaped faces should take their blush and start at the outer corners of the eyes and glide it up towards the temples. Women with square faces should apply their blush slightly under the cheekbones.

Probably one of the oldest makeup rules is to not wear lipstick without using a lip liner. As if! Not all lipstick shades look good with liner. It all really depends on the shade and type of lipstick being used. Creamy formulas tend to look more natural without the liner. Lip liner should be used with lipstick for colors that are darker or really bright. These types of lip color tend to spread over the lips, causing an undefined look. This is where lip liner comes in handy. However, if you’re using more natural or lighter shades of lip color, skip the liner and instead apply your lipstick with a lip brush.
