Beauty Tips for Handling Extreme Weather Part 1: Heat & Humidity

Beauty Tips for Handling Extreme Weather Part 1: Heat & HumidityGoing on vacation or a last minute road trip should be fun, not a hassle. It’s hard to live in the moment when you’re constantly stressed about your hair getting fried, falling flat, or sticking to your skin. Extremely hot temperatures can bring out the worst not only in your hair, but your skin as well.

When it comes to extremely hot temperatures that involve heat and humidity, the only way to keep yourself looking great is by cooling down. Makeup and heat usually don’t mix well together so make things easier on yourself by skipping layers of foundation and powder. This is where bronzer and tinted moisturizers become your best friends. These products allow your skin to breathe and keep your complexion blemish free and your pores unclogged for the length of your trip. While running around town, keep sweat to a minimum by carrying moist towelettes in your purse or oil absorbing sheets to tone down the shine. Because of the hot weather, using proper sun care products is vital to staying free from UV rays. To maintain clear and healthy skin, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. As always, any makeup you apply should be thoroughly washed off every night before bed.

If the atmosphere is hot and humid, be prepared for stickiness in every shape and form. Depending on your hair type, the heat may not let your favorite hairstyle survive in one piece. Opt for ponytails, braids and other types of updos that will not only keep your from fighting to maintain your tresses, but will also keep your hair from sticking to the back of your neck. Hair brushing against your skin in hot weather can cause you to scratch and irritate your skin so it’s best to beat that problem to the punch. While on the subject of hair connecting with skin, sweep long bangs and wispy bangs to the side and pin with a clip or brush them upwards and out of the way. The last thing you’ll want during your vacation or trip is a breakout of pimples on your forehead.

For vacations taking place in areas that are hot and dry, make sure to bring plenty of top quality hair products that work to protect from heat damage and breakage. Use formulas that specialize in moisturizing your strands and that are lightweight so the ingredients don’t weigh down your hair. Many salon-quality products not only protect hair from intense heat, but also add volume, body, and maximum hold for curls while keeping your hair properly moisturized when you’re out and about. If you have straight hair that is dying for some curls and body, avoid using a curling iron - you don’t want to add more heat when your hair is already exposed to enough of the sun outdoors - and instead set your hair using jumbo rollers at night. This method will let you get a good night’s sleep and wake up with a head of curls or waves that you can style heat-free.
