Remember mood rings? They were fun – not always accurate, but fun. I remember them being used in flirtation situations and as weapons when you were already looking to pick a fight and could prove unfaithfulness by the darkening color of your girlfriend’s ring. Much like everything else, the fashion and cosmetics industries have taken what was once just an okay idea and capitalized on it, made it over-the-top and put it out there for the world to enjoy once again.
Mood makeup is on the market. So far it’s available for your cheeks and lips. As a blush, a clear gel reportedly reacts with your skin to create a shade that is uniquely you. Goji Berry-C Complex is the key ingredient in this mood-bearing cheek stain that does more than make you blush. As a lipstick, mood-wear colorant responds to your body’s temperature, much like mood rings did. This lip color intensifies as your temperature rises to and goes from light pink to intensely dark shades of pink. The verdict is out as to whether or not users would risk showing moods like embarrassment or “hot and bothered” (as the packaging states) any more than they already do.
Looking to be totally transparent with those around you? Then don’t stop with mood makeup. You can also wear a lovely mood gown. That’s right; this evening gown (which really is stunning) isn’t just your run-of-the-mill material. It contains built-in sensors that are able to measure any physiological changes in your body and “determine your mood.” But it doesn’t change color to reveal your feelings – please, that’s so last season! This dress responds to your changing mood by delivering a light show. Pulsating lights are placed in the dress and respond to changes in your body with lively flashing lights. Are they strategically placed to show just where your excitement is coming from – your heart racing over the guy who just walked into the room, or perhaps it’s too hot and you’re perspiring? You’ll have to let us know!
If you’re ready to reveal your mood, these are the trends you’ve been waiting for. I see even more potential for mood-wear as a weapon. Imagine slipping mood lipstick to a friend knowing the boy she’s secretly in love with will be joining your group for a night out. Or better yet, get her to wear the dress. We thought an improvement to these products might be their ability to mask your true mood and protect you from showing your embarrassment in certain situations. Either way, they are a much more permanent commitment than the old mood rings that could be easily slipped off or turned over. But they are fun. As for accuracy, you’ll have to be the judge of that.
