The Next Big Things and Big Flops in Beauty

The Next Big Things and Big Flops in BeautyEvery season new colors, new creams, new miracles in a bottle hit the shelves and pervade every other page of magazines and billboards across the globe…and then they’re gone. But there are the few products, the few colors that become mainstays and must-haves. Those precious few are most often projected to be a raving success by beauty experts who have a sixth sense about what will be hot and what will flop. They share their predictions for summer 2008.

The Next Big Things:

For those of us who never can quite conquer dry skin, the gurus are pronouncing hand and facial cream with antioxidants Ester-C and African Red Tea as this season’s hottest and most effective trend in moisturizers. It is gentle on sensitive skin and doesn’t leave skin looking shiny.

A hand-held laser that you can safely and effectively use at home for hair removal. It’s designed for use on your legs, underarms, back and bikini area. It’s revolutionizing hair removal, says Robin Coe-Hutshing from Studio at Fred Segal.

Flight cream. This revolutionary cream uses natural and sustainable ingredients to protect your skin during air travel from dehydration, atmospheric changes and other skin issues we’d all like to avoid during travel.

Does my neck make me look old? If so, never fear, peptide anti-aging cream designed specifically for your neck and décolletage is about to hit the shelves…and quickly disappear. Women and men are expanding their anti-aging regimen to include treatment of their neck and chest. It’s a sure give-away when your neck looks twenty years older than your face, say the experts.

Whoever said navy is the new black should have also deduced that navy would also be the new red – at least when we’re talking nail color. Deep navy with a hint of shimmer is selling out before it’s stocked in London.

Also on the move again this season are fake eyelashes. They are turning up in new lengths and are now designed to enhance your own lashes by offering extra depth just in the places you need it. Look for corner lashes, center lashes or full lashes.

The Next Big Flops:

One of the biggest flops projected to attempt to make an appearance this season is yet another line of high priced shaving cream. Our beauty authorities tell us that there has yet to be a shaving cream that is worth its high price.

Gradual self tanners are also not getting the nod this season. After the original product, there came so many knock-offs that customers are just confused said CVS’s Debbie Armstrong. They just don’t deliver!

So as you head out to find the perfect shade or solution for summer ’08, check your trends and shop wisely. Experts agree that the old adage, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is, holds true for the beauty world as well.
