Hair styles say a lot about a person. How you style your hair says even more. For some, hair is just something that’s there. You would look funny without it. Your goal is to keep it out of your eyes and out of your workspace. For others, your hair is an obsession. You’ve spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on the latest cuts and colors and texturizers and blow dryers. You never tire of trying new things and you won’t leave home without doing something amazing with your locks – they do, after all, define you. Most girls find themselves somewhere in between – suffering through their share of bad hair days and enjoying hair victories that your friends (and enemies) are still talking about.
Celebs are not different. The media may take their hair styles more seriously than they do, but we do enjoy pretending that we got an inside scoop into their lives when they dish about their dos. Take Gwyneth Paltrow. She always looks soft and sleek and totally put together. Her style at the moment: a short cut that resembles a bob that’s been growing out. It’s that hint of “oh I just haven’t had time to care about my hair, but I still look completely perfect” that intrigues us. Gwyneth’s style has absolutely no layers and the ends are thinned out with a razor so they look slightly jagged. It’s flattering to all face shapes, but takes a serious commitment to style it. Because it’s an in-between length you have to tell each section what to do every time you work with it. Gwyneth’s choice maintains the perfect balance of sweet and sassy that makes her adorable.
Rihanna’s short, short cut screams her trademark mantra, “Risky!” It’s meant to look imperfect but super cute. It’s all about someone who isn’t afraid. And so far it’s paid off for this star. This gamine cut is “boy short” on the sides and in the back all the way up the head. The top and bangs are seriously layered so that there’s no way you could smooth out the style. The key is to keep the top layers soft and not choppy so the cut doesn’t lose its girlishness. This style is best for petite frames. It is a big no-no for curly haired girls – think poodle.
Blake Lively is medium-long and layered and soft and ultra-low maintenance – just the way she likes it. Her cut falls just below the shoulders with long, soft layers cut in around the face and through the sides and back. Throw in some fat hot rollers and you’ve got tons of personality with minimal effort. And the best news is that this style looks good on anyone – seriously. Curly, straight, fine, thick, it doesn’t matter. This cut is just like Blake, it’s versatile, it’s fluid and it lets your personality shine through without announcing your entrance. This layered style accentuates all the right features of your face making you look good all the time.
