Get the Celebrity Look: Keira Knightley

Get the Celebrity Look: Keira KnightleyBased on her movies, it’s clear that Keira Knightley is no girly girl. But when she’s not kicking butt and stealing the screen from the likes of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, the British bombshell gets the chance to show her feminine and glamorous side on the red carpet. Kiera’s makeup look mixes class and sophistication with a hint of flirtatiousness.

Keira’s complexion is all about the matte look. That being said, when choosing your foundation opt for a shade that is as close to your natural skin tone as possible. Be sure to blend well. If needed, apply concearler next to any problem areas. Add a small amount of concealer to the top of the entire eyelid as a shadow base color. Once you’ve got your concealer and foundation in place, use a matte pressed powder and apply it to your face with a sponge or powder puff. Use long, sweeping strokes to gently dust the powder onto your face. Step back and check your work in good lighting to make sure you’ve blended well and don’t have any streaks or lines. In addition, use a sponge or puff to add the pressed powder to your upper and lower eyelids. This helps to prevent the eyeliner and eye shadow from slipping down and getting caught in the creases of your eyes.

Follow up with a matte tan/khaki shade on the entire lid. Sweep the same color right onto the top of the lash line and along the lower lash line. Next comes the smokey eye look. Using a matte smoke or charcoal eye shadow, apply color in the crease from corner to corner blend well. Be sure to gently blend the color into the lid shadow a bit but not too much. For the highlight color, adding a light layer of matte cream eye shadow below the brow, underneath the arch to the outer corner finishes the smokey eye. Now you can line your eyes with black liner or smoke powder eye shadow. Create a thin line along the top lash line from corner to corner. Do the same for the bottom lash line, making sure to keep the bottom line very thin. To complete the liner look, trace a thin line around the inner corners of the eyes.

To avoid hard lines and edges for this smokey eye look, use a clean brush to gently blend the entire look and reach the level of softness desired. The only part that should be sharp is the lines around the corner of the eyes. This really makes your peepers stand out. Add a few coats of black, lengthening mascara.

Keep the lips simple with a matte pink, peach or nude shade. After one coat, blot with a tissue and apply the second coat and blot again.
