While there is nothing wrong with wanting to snag a celebrity’s look, there are some dos and don’ts that you will want to follow in order to experience the best results.
Reference pictures are a must! You should never attempt to sport a celebrity look without having at least one photo to use for reference. It does not matter if you are hoping to try out a new makeup palette or a different hairstyle - words can only do so much and they won’t be nearly enough for a professional makeup artist or hair stylist to see your vision. Before heading to the makeup counter or the hair salon take some time to do research online or grab a magazine and find the best photo or photos and bring them with you. Not only will it increase your chances of getting the best end results, it will also save you time.
Be realistic and use common sense. When it comes to hairstyles in particular it is always best to use a celebrity for reference that has a similar face shape as yours. For example, if you have a heart shaped face, it’s probably not a good idea to pick a hairstyle and cut that you saw on an actress that has a square or oval face. Many “it” hairstyles are specific to certain face shapes so keep that in mind. Use good judgment when trying out new makeup looks as well, especially if you are using a celebrity as your inspiration. If you are thinking about doing something different with your makeup, the best way to achieve this is by searching for a celebrity that has the same skin tone as you. It goes without saying that certain skin tones can wear certain makeup shades better than others. However, if there is a celebrity with a different skin tone than you who is sporting a makeup look you are just in love with, print out a picture and bring it to the makeup counter. Ask the makeup artist/salesperson if they can find a shade that is similar but complements your skin tone.
Don’t just simply copy a celebrity style - make it your own. Who says you have to do your hair or makeup exactly how your favorite A-list celeb does? Use the style as inspiration and make little changes that suit your taste and personality. Being able to do that will definitely allow you to stand out from the crowd.
