Color My World

Color My WorldAlthough you probably realize that different makeup colors can enhance your features, you might not know that makeup and clothing colors could affect your mood. In fact, ancient cultures such as the Egyptians and the Chinese were known to practice a technique called chromotherapy, which uses color to heal physical and psychological ailments. Whether you are applying for a new job, or going out on a first date, being color savvy can be the key to your success. Here are some things to consider when choosing makeup and clothing colors.

·    Red is the most energetic color in the spectrum. It is associated with love, desire, speed and strength. Ancient cultures used red to speed up circulation. Keep in mind that red is also associated with danger, stop signs and fight or flight responses. If you are on a first date with a timid man, it might not be your best color choice. You can tone down the dramatic effects of red by adding a touch of blue.

·    Yellow, aside from being the color of Donovan`s true love`s hair, is the color of joy, friendship and optimism. It is considered to be an "activating color," which stimulates conversation and creativity. Ancient cultures used yellow to stimulate the nerves and purify the body. Yellow mixed with black is considered to be a "high tech" look. A yellow and black outfit might be a good choice for an interview for an IT job.

·    Pink is known to have a calming effect on the mind and body. While red might denote passion, pink is associated with romance. To combine romance with sophistication and maturity, mix pink with shades of black or darker blue.

·    Purple is considered a regal, mysterious and spiritual color. Since it does appear in nature, some people associate purple with exoticism.

·    Black represents power, sexuality and sophistication. You can make black look more approachable by adding some yellow.

·    White represents purity, simplicity, cleanliness and humility. It can be used to soften the message of some of the stronger colors, such as black or red.

·    Brown, being a natural color, can promote a sense of strength and reliability. As such, it might be a choice for a job interview or for a date with a man that you consider "marriage material." If you want to appear to be a bit more interesting, mix brown with a touch of deep purple.

·    Blue suggests peace, reliability, tranquility and loyalty. It can slow the pulse rate, reduce appetite and lower your body`s temperature. Avoid putting people to sleep by combining blue with a touch of red. For example, a navy blue outfit with bright red lipstick says, "I`m reliable but exciting."

·    Green represents nature, youth, vigor and fertility. Some researchers have found that exposure to the color green can improve reading ability. Others have discovered that people who work in green environments have fewer stomachaches.
