Fabulous Over 50

Fabulous Over 50When we age, we want to do it gracefully, but as we age our skin texture actually changes. Changing our products and beauty routine can help us to age gracefully and make us feel fabulous, even over 50. Here are some skincare, hair care and makeup tip that will help you look beautiful at any age:

·    Skip the bright and contrasting makeup colors and iridescent and shimmering eye shadow; they will only age you. Instead opt for natural colors that compliment your skin tone. Soft roses and corrals are great as well.

·    Remember to keep skin moisturized. Keeping skin well-hydrated provides a better base when applying your makeup. Look for makeup with added moisturizers.

·    Use anti-aging products to rejuvenate your skin tone and improve skin’s firmness.

·    Avoid applying blush to the cheekbones since this can make aging faces look overly thin. Instead, apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend, blend, blend. Also, look for cream blush instead of powder. Powder tends to settle into fine lines and wrinkles, making them look extremely visible.

·    Pay special attention to your eyes. Invest in an eye cream that reduces under eye puffiness. Look for ingredients like caffeine or plant-based arbutin in them.

·    For an instant eyelift, apply a neutral shade of color to the lids and then apply eyeliner to the upper lashes only. Don’t forget to blend!

·    If you’ve never worn lipstick before, now is the time to do so! As we age, our lips tend to lose their color. To correct this and prevent your lips from looking washed out and pale, apply lip color!

·    Use lip liner sparingly or better yet, skip it all together. If you must use a lip liner, choose a neutral shade to avoid feathering.

·    Don’t overload on the foundation. Use foundation sparingly to prevent it from drying out your skin and showing off those fine lines and wrinkles. If you’re in need of a little added glow, try a light touch of shimmering or light-reflecting powder.

·    Got varicose veins? Try using a sunless tanning lotion or cream to disguise the problem or head to your local tanning salon and ask them about an airbrush tan.

·    If you have the beginnings of gray hair, visit your local hair salon and ask about having your gray hairs covered with highlights.

·    While you’re at the salon covering those grays, try out a new hairstyle. Sometimes just a simple cut can take years off your appearance and make you feel beautiful all over again!

·    Don’t skip out on exercise. Who says you can’t exercise when you’re over 50? Heck, we’ve seen quite a few and they’ve outdone us at the gym! If you’ve never exercised before, talk with your doctor before beginning a program. As soon as you have an okay, try walking a few minutes a day and increase those minutes by every other day. If you have a dog, walk him or her.

Something the beautiful actress Victoria Principal shares with others is, “Learn to speak to yourself with kindness and generosity.” Meaning, don’t put yourself down. You wouldn’t do it to others, so why do it to yourself? Besides, there’s nothing wrong with the way you look. Beauty comes from the heart and soul. You are beautiful, we all are.
