Probably one of the most important lessons to learn when it comes to wearing bright colors in your closet is to realize that such colors should only be used to accent your outfit. Avoid wearing bright colors from top to bottom at all costs. This is where color goes wrong in fashion. Once you follow this rule, you can’t go wrong. Do you have a closet full of solid and dark colored clothes? One challenge to adding vibrant shades to a wardrobe is to start off slow. Use each brightly colored item to create a balance or break up the bland appearance of a subdued outfit.
If you’re a fan of wearing black, gray, and navy, you’ll want to boost these shades with a touch of pink, red, green, yellow or orange. And it doesn’t even necessarily have to be a clothing item! If you love accessories, use that as an outlet to add more color. For example, break up a boring black on black outfit with a stylish orange purse. Or you can opt for a green headband or even a multicolored scarf. Are you a fan of clothes in the shades of tan, beige, and off whites? Then toss in some red heels or sandals or a fun yellow wide belt. However, if you’re looking for vivid clothing items, start off by choosing tops to complement dark jeans or khaki-colored pants. Just about anyone can get away with sporting a lime green tank top, pink hoodie jacket, or electric blue sweater. Wearing brighter colors on top will be much easier during the summer months, when it’s perfectly acceptable to wear a baby tee, tank top or other stylish blouse that shows a bit of skin.
During the cooler times, you can introduce color into your wardrobe by learning how to layer bright hues with neutral ones. Keep your neck warm by purchasing scarves, wraps, or shawls in fabulous shades of greens, purples, and reds. Make a statement by investing in a coat in bright red or yellow. Still a little intimidated by color? Then take baby steps with colorful jewelry such as red hoop earrings, yellow and orange bangle bracelets, or a cool multicolored necklace.
The possibilities really are endless when it comes to color and you’ll no longer have to be afraid of drawing the wrong kind of attention.
