Go Sexy with a Scarf this Season

Go Sexy with a Scarf this SeasonScarves have been around for a long time but in the past few years, this fashion accessory has become a highly popular item to have. Everyday women as well as celebrities have been sporting scarves to dress up or accent an otherwise bland outfit. If you’ve always wanted to give scarves a try, keep reading for tips and tricks on how to properly introduce this fashion accessory into your wardrobe.

The first thing to know about scarves is that you don’t have to limit yourself to wearing them around your neck. The beauty of the scarf is that its style is flexible and can be worn as a shawl, head covering, head piece or an actual garment. But first things first: how do you tie a scarf? First time scarf-wearers can start off slow by learning how to tie a scarf around the neck. Simply wrap your scarf around the back of your neck so that the two ends fall in front of you. Then take both ends and tie a lose knot and allow the scarf to hang as is. Surprisingly, there are many ways to tie scarf knots, and while most can be done on the first try, others may require more practice.

If you want to wear a scarf as more than just an accessory around your neck, then you’ll want to take some time to purchase the right kind of scarf for your fashion needs. Scarves come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and lengths. You can find square, triangular, rectangular, and oblong shaped scarves. In terms of length, you can find scarves as long as 48 inches (this type is ideal for use as a shawl). Shorter scarves can be anywhere from 14-16 inches and are intended for use as headwear or a hair accessory. You can also choose a scarf based on the material and design. Scarves come with jewels, embroidery, fringes, fused edges, and can be tie-dyed, silk screened, contain woven patterns or come in solid colors. The possibilities are endless, which make wearing a scarf stylish no matter what the season is or what outfit you plan on wearing with it.

Thinking about sporting a scarf as an actual fashion clothing item? While many women wear scarves around their shoulders as a makeshift shawl, or on their heads to keep their hair in place, you can also use a scarf around your waist as a stylish belt or drape it around your hips to create a fashion statement. Using a scarf in this way can help create the illusion of a smaller waist, especially if you let the ends hang down asymmetrically, which draws the eye downwards. Or it can help bring balance to an outfit composed of a long blouse with jeans or leggings.

As a hair accessory, your scarf can keep every strand of hair in place while running errands in town or riding in the car. Large square scarves are best for this style. Simply tie your scarf (silk or chiffon is preferred) underneath your chin or on the back of your head, after you’ve placed the scarf over your hair. Small scarves can also be folded and secured to act as headbands.
