How to Get the Pin up Look

How to Get the Pin up LookMarilyn Monroe, Bettie Paige, Jayne Mansfield. These names all rings bells and with good reason. These are three of the most well known pin up models in the world. Since the 1910s all the way up to modern times the pin up look is one that has remained hugely popular. From professional models to actresses and other A-list celebrities, the pin up look is one that oozes sexiness and wild femininity.

Perhaps one of the reasons why so many people are in love with the pin up style is because of the vintage look and feel. From the outfits to the makeup and hairstyles, this look is very era specific. Whether you want to try your hand at being a pin up model or simply want to sport the style just for the heck of it, there are a couple of tips you’ll want to keep in mind so that you can pull of a pin up look that is truly genuine.

When it comes to pin up, the makeup is the most important part. Without the right makeup, the end results won’t be complete. In the past pin up models were pale beauties and current pin ups like Dita Von Teese have maintained the porcelain look. However, you no longer have to sport a pale complexion in order to successfully pull off the pin up style. Regardless of your skin tone make sure the foundation you choose matches your skin type and color. Liquid foundation formulas are best for dry skin types and powder foundation works well for normal and oily skin types. To tackle your eyes, start by using a vanilla eye shadow on your eyelids. Follow this by blending taupe eye shadow into the creases. Make your eyes pop by using liquid liner on your entire upper lid. Be sure to extend the line from the outer corner up and outwards to create a “cat eyed” look. It is best to use an angled brush for this. Finish off your eyes with one coat of mascara, followed by a set of false lashes. Next, take care of your eyebrows by using matte powder shadow to fill in any sparse areas. Use a large brush to apply pink blush to the apples of your cheeks to create warmth and then complete your makeup look by adding lip color. Hot red lips are a common staple in the pin up look so feel free to choose a shade that you like. Start by lining the lips with red liner and then blend with a lip brush. Now you can apply your red lipstick in the same color and blend well with your lip brush.

Now it’s time to get pin up hair. There are no hard and fast rules as to what hairstyle you should choose but it is important that you pick a style that works for your hair length and hair type. You can sport classic waves, a classic pompadour, beehive or barrel curls.
