Whether you`re spicing up your present wardrobe or shopping for a whole new you, you can shop smart and look for certain style elements that will maximize a few new pieces and update what you already love. From dresses to tops to skirts, adding a few touches and shopping strategically will really bring your closet full swing.

Although the LBD (little black dress) will probably never go completely out of style or stop turning heads when you find just the right one, there’s much more to be said on the dress front and you can look just as sexy. Before you go out completely restock your dress attire, consider what a little (or big) belt can do for an old favorite. A belt works around many dress styles – some that would really surprise you. It makes the old look new. When you’re shopping, look for color and patterns and interesting material. Ruffles and bows are back and tons of fun. Unique qualities, like material, mean you won’t wear the dress every week, but when you do people will take notice and it will become their favorite as well as yours.

Dress length is to the knees or below and they are best worn this season with thick black tights and a belt at the waist. If you’re curvy, your perfect dress is more fitted than the baggy, flowing styles.

Skirts are more fun than ever this year. They are bright and colorful, full of design and figure flattering. Two styles top the charts, pencil skirts which look good on most any shape and full, bouncy skirts that are mega-flattering, especially when worn with a fitted top. To really rock you skirt, pair full ones with a snug cardigan and loads of necklaces. Try a skinny belt on a pencil skirt and go ahead, add another necklace.

Boring tops are outta here! This season there is nothing but color and style to be worn over sleek, fitted pants. To buy the best tops, think ruffles and lace and prints in sheer chiffon, silk and every blend on the planet. Lots of tops are billowy and busy; be sure to pair them with plain black pants or a plain black skirt. Avoid wearing a full cut pant with a billowy top. The results are that you’ve just added another 10 pounds to your appearance. Try tucking in your full top and adding a belt. If your top is sheer, please wear a cami underneath! Soft, sweet pastels in ruffles or prints look great with a sophisticated belt and sleek pants. If your top is busy, skip the necklaces and let the clothes speak for themselves.
