How to Wear Lace in the Winter

How to Wear Lace in the WinterLace isn’t just for grandmas and wedding gowns. This season lace is taking on brazen colors and is showing up in the office, at dinner and on the dance floor. The patterns are updated and sexy. The material is tough enough to be worn more than once and the look is nothing short of breathtaking. Lace is the fabric of winter.

Lace has long been fairly limited to white and black – the colors of wedding and lingerie. Take a new look at one of the sexiest materials ever created in colors like metallic bronze, pewter, and rich shades of gold. Designers are breaking down the stereotypes of lace and it’s showing up in tasteful tops paired with wide-legged black pants and black heels in board rooms and executive meetings. The look continues to have sex appeal – it is lace after all! – but it also demands respect for the woman who wears it with confidence and poise. Choose the same power-hitter colors when in the office and pair lace with serious fabrics like tweed. Keep it fitted and definitely not see-through. Wear it on tailored pieces like jackets. Don’t be afraid to match it up with patterns that compliment the pattern of your lace piece and are in the same color family. Reserve lace dresses for evenings out. Even the most industry savvy gal will have a hard time keeping anyone’s attention on the business at hand wearing a long lace dress.

For fun and a femme touch anytime, put on a lace patterned coat with solid pants or jeans – super sexy! Lace coats go great with fun fall and winter hats, sleek heels and boots, leather gloves and scarves.

When you’re goal is simply to be hot, hot, hot see through lace is still all it’s ever been. The secret to not looking like you want to be seen is to pair a see-through top with dark skinny jeans or dark pants. Go ahead and wear nothing but a silk cami underneath, but never leave the house with just a bra between you and lace. Make your look stylish with a long lace scarf in the same color as your top tied in a loose bow at your neck. Add black cuffs and a belt or a long black bead necklace for real class.

The sheer lace skirt is so versatile it can go from dance floor to dinner with his folks as long as you know how to layer it. For a night with the girls when you don’t want to buy a thing for yourself, layer a sheer black lace skirt over a chignon skirt – just enough material se you can’t see through it. Pair it with a black top with ruffles and a large necklace – think medallions. Finish the look with ankle length or ¾ calf length black boots.

To meet the parents swap the chignon skirt for a solid one in the same color family as the lace overlay. Consider a more subtle pair of shoes unless his folks are trendy too.
