The main things to keep in mind when shopping for a wedding dress include your height and your body shape. If you’re a small bride-to-be, you more than likely have a petite frame to go with it. Petite brides should focus on finding a dress that creates the illusion of height. The styles of dresses you’ll want to search for include empire line styles and A-line cuts. Empire line style wedding dresses bring the eye upwards and create the illusion of an elongated torso, while A-line cuts give the princess bride image without being too poofy and causing you to disappear in the fabric. Scooped necklines are also more flattering for petite brides, regardless of the size of your bust. Avoid wedding dresses that have a corset on top and a skirt on the bottom because this style can make a short torso appear even shorter. Halter neckline styles should be avoided by petite women with a large bust and small waist, since this style will make you look too top heavy.
Tall brides can pick from a range of dress styles including A-line cuts, mermaid styles, ball gowns, princess lines, and traditionally straight styles. However, one style tall women should stay away from are empire line dresses, which can make you appear trapped in a tent. Women that are super curvy will want to find a style of wedding dress that makes their waist appear small and accentuates it. Corset dresses, ball gowns, and those that come in a two-piece style are ideal for curvy brides. Brides that are pear-shaped should flock to A-line princess styles to take attention away from their wide hips and bring balance to their bust and torso.
One main hassle many brides have to deal with is their arms. If you hate your full arms and worry about finding a dress that won’t bring unflattering attention to them, you’ll want to search for a wedding dress with sheer fabric sleeves that are long or three-quarter length.
An off the shoulder style is also another style possibility. Full waists are also another flaw that many brides wish to hide and can do so by looking for styles that bring attention away from their waist and upwards to their face. This can be accomplished with a wedding dress in a princess line style or one that features a drop waist style. Additionally, using jewelry will keep the focus on your top half.
