Dropping major pounds is a huge accomplishment but with such a change comes the transition into a new lifestyle. This not only includes the way a person eats, either. Clothing-wise, a person that has lost a significant amount of weight will find themselves needing an entirely new wardrobe. Both men and women alike will benefit from the following tips on how to dress for their new look in a way that will cause little to no stress.
The first step is to mentally prepare yourself for this new phase in your life. It may not seem like a big deal but having a new body is like becoming an entirely new person. The thought of no longer having to purchase larger clothing to hide your body and being able to choose smaller sizes and styles you may not have been able to wear before can be an emotionally overwhelming experience for some. Before heading to the store, take some time to reflect and become comfortable with your new body. Go through your closet and evaluate your wardrobe. Note what styles you like and which ones you can’t wait to get rid of. To celebrate the need for a new wardrobe, first gather your old clothes together and donate them to a place like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Now you’ll have plenty of space to fit your new threads.
Don’t be scared to shop around at first and see which stores carry styles you would like to wear. It’s helpful for both men and women to get their measurements professionally taken by a tailor or seamstress beforehand. This will help you choose the most accurate sizes while shopping instead of trying to guess. Women will definitely want to get their busts measured again as well and purchase new bras that properly fit their new frame.
The only way to know if something looks good is to try it on. Eyeballing the fit without trying it on may have been fine before your weight loss but you’re in new territory now so don’t be afraid to hit the dressing room. For moral support bring a trusted friend along, whose opinion you know you can trust. The same goes for the men.
It’s okay to take baby steps during this process. Women who have lost excessive weight may not be in a major rush to show off their body. In such instances, start off by picking and choosing styles that show a little bit of your figure, such as a shirtdress, which is flattering on many body types or pairing a strapless sundress with a fitted blazer (if you are still shy about showing off your arms). Men will want to learn which jeans/slack styles and cuts are suitable for their new frame, as well as how to purchase t-shirts, blazers and similar tops that enhance their upper body in a good way. Men can benefit from looking at photos of male celebs with similar builds to see what wardrobe options they choose and use that as a reference point.
