Just as with all clothing items and accessories, there are various styles that boots come in. And as such, it is vital to learn which styles go with which outfits. Ignoring this basic rule can cause you to run into a fashion faux pas. The most common boot styles are tall boots, ankle boots, mid-calf boots, and fur-lined boots.
Tall boots (the kind that reach your knees) work well with shorter skirts, jeans, and dresses with the appropriate length. However, it is important that the tall boots you purchase fit your legs snuggly. Avoid large gaps between your skin and the boot. You don’t want to create the illusion that your boots are too big for you. Ankle boots look great when paired with a short skirt or tights. Stay away from long skirts and dresses that go past the knees when wearing ankle boots - it just looks bad. Mid-calf boots work with all skirt lengths, while fur-lined boots go well with short skirts, tights, and jeans.
Not only will your outfit determine which style of boots you should wear, but your body type as well. If you’re top heavy, you’ll want to draw attention away from the chest area. You can achieve this by wearing a longer top, cinched with a decorative belt, a pair of form-fitting jeans and mid-calf boots with your jeans tucked in. Make sure the boot heel is reasonable and avoid a pair that looks baggy or slouches. Women of a shorter stature can use boots with a good-sized heel to their advantage, but make sure they aren’t so tall that you have a hard time walking in them. Pear-shaped women should opt for a slouched top and form-fitting jeans with boots. Avoid wearing a top that fits too tightly, since this will only enhance your pear shaped figure.
Wearing boots with jeans has become one of the latest trends but can be a bit tricky to pull off at first. The key is to not have your jeans bunch up or appear bulky. If you want to make your current pair of jeans work with your boots, you can try folding your jeans around the ankle and covering them up with a pair of knee high socks or regular socks to flatten them and then pull on your boots. If your jeans bulk up, making it difficult to zip up the boot, you can buy a pair of boots in a larger size around the calf area to accommodate your jeans. For those of you that are interesting in sporting boots that fit snuggly against your legs, you’ll want to invest in a pair of skinny jeans. This will prevent unsightly “bulking” that can occur when close fitting boots are paired with jeans that are bootcut or flared.
