Fragrance Tips for Summer

Fragrance Tips for SummerWhile you are getting ready to don the shorts and tank tops for the warmer months that have arrived, it is a good idea to “summerize” your fragrance routine as well. The warm, spicy scents that were so yummy all winter will only serve to weigh you down when the temperature goes up. Now is the time to opt for the airy fragrances that offer a hint of floral scents or citrus aromas that will get you through the summer without overpowering those around you with your fragrance. As you head out to shop for that perfect summer perfume, there are some tips that you should keep in mind to find the right fragrance for you.

Try if for Yourself

First and foremost, always try on the scent that you are considering. Just because a perfume smells luscious on your best buddy, that doesn’t mean it will emit the same delightful aroma on you. Everyone’s body chemistry is slightly different, which means that every cologne and perfume will smell somewhat different on each individual who wears it. Don’t be shy! Head to the fragrance counter of your favorite department store and start sniffing those testers. Even better – take that best pal with you to give you her opinion on which fragrance makes you smell the most divine. Look for a scent that will reflect your own personality. For example, romantics at heart could opt for a floral scent, while free spirits might prefer the breezy citrus scents. What do you want your fragrance to say about you?

Don’t Overdo It!

Once you have found that oh, so perfect scent for you this summer, take care not to completely douse your body in your fragrance. That yummy aroma can become much less pleasant when it takes over the space you occupy! Instead, look for ways to layer your fragrance to allow for longer lasting effects that will not overpower. Try a scented lotion after your shower, and a few well placed dabs of cologne behind your elbows and knees. Don’t expect a couple of dots on your neck to last all day – it is better to spread the fragrance around your body. Always dab or spray cologne on, and avoid rubbing it into your skin, since this will only serve to reduce the effectiveness of your fragrance. Most fragrances will only last about four hours, so plan to reapply your cologne at least once a day.

Summer is a great time to try a new fragrance on for size. Find a fragrance that will reflect your individual personality and style. Keep your scent as light as a summer day, a layer for additional effectiveness. Smell pretty.
