Place a Half Onion in a Room to Absorb Odors
Ironically, onions can be used to absorb any bad odors caught in a room buy cutting them open and leaving them out in the room. Use this remedy while you are cleaning your house and try placing a half onion in each room for a few hours discarding the onion after it had begun to wither and dry. You can use a cut onion in your fridge the same way to capture the odors lying there, and it can be hidden in the bathroom as well.
Make Fragrant Tea and Add it to your Humidifier
Do you have a tea you drink purely for the scent that wafts up out of the cup? You can fill a room with that scent by adding a strong cup of the tea to your humidifier water. The herbal steam will help eliminate dryness in the room, and add the steamed fragrance to the area.
Mist Sheets and Drapes with your Favorite Fragrance Spray
One way to fill a room with fragrance is to treat the linens. Mist fragrance on the outer layer of your bed-sheets and on your drapes. Every time you open your drapes or relax on the bed, the fragrance spreads around the room.
Use Scented Candles and Oils to Coordinate Fragrance with your Day
Try starting off your morning with a citrus scented candle or oils to give you an energy boost. Use lavender or vanilla in the afternoon to relax, or pine to wake you up for the rest of the day. Wind down with a romantic rose scents in the bedroom at night or breathe in the fragrance of Ylang-Ylang to relieve the stress of the day. Make your home your fragrance retreat all day.
Place Herbal Sachets in Drawers, Cupboards and Linen Closets
Herbal sachets or herbal pillows are a great way to spread fragrance throughout your house, and take it with you when you leave. Fragrant sachets can also be used as an insect repellant. Lavender and patchouli are both beautiful smelling herbs that insects hate, so place small bags or pillows full of the dried herb everywhere to keep them out of your personal effects.
Plug in a Crock Pot for Potpourri
Crock pots are an easy way to utilize herbal blends of potpourri that fill your house with warmth and spicy smells. Place a ¼ to ½ cup of potpourri in the pot and cover it with water. Leave the lid off, and let the pot simmer throughout the day for a strong fragrance that will travel throughout the house
