The Hot Spots for Fragrances

The Hot Spots for FragrancesEver wondered why the scent of your sweet perfume or manly cologne disappears as soon as you head out the door? Applying a fragrance involves more than just one spray. There is almost a type of art to maintaining your signature scent. By knowing the body’s hot spots for fragrances, you’ll stay wonderfully fragrant no matter how long you’re out on the town.

Fragrances come in more than one form: spray, lotion, straight from the bottle, etc. Each has its own special application methods and using them incorrectly can cause your scent to fade sooner than expected.

The best way to ensure your fragrance has staying power is to apply it before putting on your clothes. For many, spraying perfume or cologne is the last step in your routine. The problem with this is that perfume in any form can leave permanent stains and discoloration on both your fabrics and even jewelry, especially metals and pearls. In addition to causing possible damage to your favorite outfit or accessory, the scent of perfume can be difficult to wash out. If this is a habit that is hard for you to break, the easy solution to this problem is to spray a light mist over your undergarments, but not directly onto the material. This will avoid any discoloration or stains.

When it comes to the right spots to apply perfume, remember that less is more. Expensive perfumes and colognes have a much more potent scent that regularly priced fragrances so you won’t need much. The type of fragrance you’re applying will determine how much you need to apply. Applying your fragrance to the following “hot spots” will ensure you a long lasting fragrance:

·    Wrists: Be sure to not rub your wrists together after applying your perfume to this area because it breaks down the scent.

·    Base of the throat: Lightly mist this area, as you don’t want to create a huge pool of perfume at your throat.

·    Behind the ear lobes: Spray a small amount on your fingertip and apply it to your lobes instead of actually spraying that area.

·    Between the breasts: Follow the same directions as when applying perfume to the base of the throat.

·    Behind the knees: Because fragrances respond better to warmer temperatures, this area is ideal for preserving your scent when your body heat starts to rise.

Skin type actually has a lot to do with the staying power of your fragrance as well. Oily, darker skin types tend to capture fragrance better than dry, fair skin types so if you have the latter skin type or complexion, consider using one or two extra sprays around noontime if needed to keep you going throughout the day.
