How to Wear His Scent

How to Wear His ScentThere is something about a sexy male fragrance that can get a girl’s imagination working overtime. For some women, the idea of a men’s fragrance is enticing enough to make many want to try it out for themselves. So what’s the fashion verdict on wearing a man’s fragrance? The bottom line is if you love it, you can wear it, whether you select a fragrance for men, women or a unisex choice. However, before you run to the men’s fragrance counter to pick up a bottle of your guy’s favorite scent all for you, there are a few basics you should know about the proper way to wear his scent.

Types of Men’s Fragrance

Men’s fragrance typically comes in two different concentrations; the aftershave, which is a lower concentration of perfume oil, and the eau de toilette, which has a concentration of oil that falls somewhere between the eau de toilette and the eau de cologne for women. This means that you will apply the men’s fragrance in a similar fashion to a woman’s scent; at the pulse points like the neck and wrists. Eau de toilettes in the men’s lines will tend to last a number of hours so you will not need to reapply too often during the day.

Fragrance Families

The next great help in selecting a men’s fragrance will be to understand the different types of fragrance families, and which ones you will encounter most often at the men’s counter. It is rare to find a popular men’s fragrance sporting a floral scent, although there are a handful of selections that have proven to be quite popular with men and women alike. The floral family of scents is one of the most common in women’s fragrances.

On the other hand, Oriental fragrances are quite popular in the men’s lines, offering you some choices that are heavy, spicy and exotic, with hints of sandalwood, vanilla and musk. These fragrances tend to evaporate more slowly, allowing you plenty of wear time, and are good choices for an evening scent.  Woody fragrances are also usually heavier, with wood, tobacco and sandalwood used in the composition. These fragrances can also be a good choice for evenings, especially when romance is in the air.

Fresh scents are also abundant in men’s fragrances, which gives you some variety in selections that are perfect for everyday wear or casual evenings out. These fragrances are usually composed of citrus and light outdoor scents like lemon, mandarin and freshly cut grass. Scents in this category tend to be lighter and may evaporate more quickly, so reapplication may be necessary.

There may be a plethora of women’s fragrances available at your local department store today, but your choices don’t have to stop there. Take some time to check out what the guys are wearing as well, give your wrist a spritz and see if a men’s fragrance is the next perfect choice for you.
