How to Make Your Own Fragrance

How to Make Your Own FragranceThere are probably more fragrances available in stores than we can count. From large manufacturers to celebrities, just about everyone is creating their own fragrance. So why can’t you jump in on the fun? When you don’t feel like spending your money on high-priced fragrances, you can turn to do-it-yourself recipes to learn how to make your own scent that no one else will have.

Creating your own fragrance may or may not be easy for you. It all depends on how well you understand the process. Different types of fragrances contain their own ratios of essential oils to water and alcohol. It is important to know that for perfume the ratio is 15-30% essential oil, 70-85% alcohol, and about 5% water. When making your own fragrance, you’ll want to use 100% Vodka for the alcohol and spring water or distilled water. Never use regular tap water when making your own fragrance. The essential oil can be whatever you prefer. To get creative, you can add color to your fragrance by mixing in a few drops of natural vegetable food dye.

When you have your essential oil(s), alcohol, and water ready, go ahead and blend the oil and alcohol, while stirring slowly. Allow it to sit undisturbed for two days. Next, add your water, making sure to stir slowly until it is completely mixed in. Once the mixture is complete, you’ll need to let the fragrance sit long enough to mature and give off its scent. Store your fragrance in a sterilized container and place it in a cool and dark place. Let the fragrance sit as is for at least three weeks before use. As a final precaution, take your fragrance out of storage and run it through a coffee filter to remove any traces of sediment and then put your fragrance into a fresh glass bottle or other similar container with a stopper or spray.

The option of making your own scent allows for a large combination of essential oils. Feel free to experiment with the ones you think you’ll enjoy but if you’re having some trouble picking and choosing, get some inspiration from the following combinations and recipes:
