Both astrology and fragrance has been around since the beginning of civilization. Some may not see any connection between the two but you’d be surprised to know that the characteristics that come with astrological signs can also be paired with specific fragrances. Earth, fire, air and water are the different elements that are made up of the astrological signs. The earth element contains the following astrological signs: Capricorn, Virgo and Taurus. Aries, Sagittarius and Leo belong to the fire group. Air signs include Gemini, Aquarius and Libra, while Scorpio, Cancer and Pisces round out the water group.

Each element brings to mind certain characteristics and images, which contain clues as to what fragrances are associated with that particular element and the astrological signs it contains. For example, when thinking about the element earth, you may picture greenery, flowers and shades of brown. In terms of characteristics, you may see the earth as being solid, sturdy and strong. So what does that mean when it comes to fragrances? Capricorns may find themselves drawn to scents of myrrh, while Virgos may take a liking to Frankincense. Patchouli is a fragrance that may be attractive to those that fall under the Taurus sign. In general, earth signs can search for fragrances that are musky, floral or smell of fresh earth and foliage.

Fire, on the other hand, has a sense of power, heat, flames and even spice. Musk is a scent favorable by those under the Aries sign. Sagittarians may want to seek out Clove fragrances, while Leos are on the softer side of their element with rose fragrances. Other favorable fire fragrances include those with bold, strong notes.

Astrological signs under the element of air should look for scents that are light, clean and simple. Aquarians love violet scents, whereas Libras lean towards orange blossoms and Gemini signs favor vetiver. Anything that is light and breezy agrees with the air element.

Water is thought of as both calm and fluid or strong and unpredictable. Scent-wise, fragrances that contain words that relate to water, such as “lake,” “rain,” and “water” are all clues to what would be your best fragrance. Cancers love sandalwood. Pisceans gravitate towards amber and Scorpios like to stand out by going for cinnamon scents.

If you find yourself automatically drawn to certain scents and fragrances over others, it may have to do with your astrological sign and its characteristics. Or if you’ve been searching for a new scent but don’t have a strong nose for choosing the right one, you can let your sign or element help point you in the right direction. Even if you don’t particularly care for your astrological scent, you can branch out and try similar fragrances - the astrological fragrances aren’t set in stone but are basically a good starting point.

And remember, fragrances aren’t simply limited to perfume or cologne. You can use your astrological fragrance to find a new air freshener, scented lotion or candles for your aromatherapy needs.
