Giving the Gift of Beauty

What to Remember When Buying Beauty Products for Someone Else

Giving the Gift of BeautyBeauty products can be fun to give and to get. Remember a few simple guidelines and your gift can be the hit of the season!

Be Creative

Everyone loves a gift that shows you put your heart into it. So what does your girlfriend love? Is she a chocoholic? Fill a Christmas mug with gourmet hot cocoa packets, a chocolate bar or candies and a chocolate lip liner. If her lipstick preference is bold color, add a dark brown lipstick. If her look is more subtle, add a lip gloss in a neutral cream or natural. Taylor this idea to fit your friends who can’t live without that first…and second cup of coffee: fill a pretty oversized mug with some raffia, an assortment of coffees or a gift card to her favorite coffee shop and a mocha lip liner and gloss. For the sweet tooth on your list, combine gingerbread lip and nail colors with a traditional gingerbread man cookie cutter and a holiday bow. Get your inspiration from the color names of each product and start shopping!

Inspire!

Everyone wants a glamorous look under the mistletoe and when the New Year’s clock strikes midnight, so buy her something she wouldn’t dare and go bold, add some shimmer and shine. You can put together a beautiful look that will add holiday pizzazz to your friend’s best features.

Buying color cosmetics for someone else can be tricky, but when you combine an entire look in the same color palette, most anyone can wear it and look great. The secret is to keep warm and cool colors separate. Start with a sure thing – you know she’d love a shimmering berry lip gloss. Now choose eye colors in golds, cinnamons and grays. Keep her cheeks in brick and dark spice colors. Likewise, keep pinks, blues, and bright colors together. Red heads look great in tawny and coral colors. The color lines are not so uncrossable anymore. As long as the look you choose is consistent in its color family, you’ll have a winner.

Hints - Green eye shadows and pale pink lip glosses look good on most faces. Limit shimmer to one feature.

Embrace the Scents of the Season

From body lotions to lip glosses, you can give the gift of mmm-you-smell-good! Indulge her in body lotions and bath sets with the fragrance of winter spices like cinnamon and vanilla. Holiday gift sets abound in pear, almond and even sugar cookie and gingerbread scents. Line a basket with a thick, soft towel, add your favorite bath set, a loofa and a candle. Don’t forget the bath pillow or win big points with a home spa. Be sure she doesn’t have allergies or sensitive skin before giving the gift of scented lotions or bath products. Unscented products are just as nice and can still be combined with holiday candles.

Take Care

Winter’s chill and dry indoor heat take their toll on her delicate skin. Manicure and pedicure kits with extra emollient creams and exfoliants are as practical as they are pampering. For a great gift idea, fill a home foot spa with a rolled towel, a pedicure set and lotions designed for feet and legs. Remember to care for her smile. Fill a gift bag with lip balms, holiday lip colors and candy kisses.
