Jeans have been a fashion statement for everyone from James Dean to Cindy Crawford to all people great and small, and this season they are once again making quite a scene. You’ll be seeing jeans in places you never dreamed and in styles that look like anything from your favorite pair that are barely holding together to jeans that make you take a second look to be sure they’re actually denim. Here are a few how-to’s for wearing jeans to work and dressing them up, down and everything in between.

The key to wearing blue jeans in the office is to keep them dark with a stylish cut. Then treat them like any other pair of scandalously expensive pants and dress them up. Never fear adding a sleek top and do not forgo the accessories. Jeans will blend and compliment an expensive outfit just like any other pants.

Which leads us to the next pair you’ll be seeing a lot of – the black jeans. You better believe they’re back and they want to be treated just like all your other black pants. Wear peep toed heels with your black skinny jeans and a scarf. You’ll be comfy and classy all day long.

And don’t think black jeans came back alone. Oh no! Colored jeans are here too. In every shade form red to hot pink, blue to green, colored jeans are once again what colored khakis were in the late ‘90s. Dress them up with belted tops and ballerina flats or down with graphic T’s and tennis shoes. Either way they are feminine and sassy.

For evening, nothing sizzles like gray or almost-black jeans in skinny or boot cut. Match them up with a shimmery top and sexy heels. This look is sexy and sleek. Best of all, you’re in your jeans so you’re feeling great and looking great.

A few pointers for great denim dressing: Skinny jeans look best with long flowy tops or cropped jackets. Pair them up with slinky heels for a fashion must-have. Add a belt, even to high-waisted jeans. Accessories are an integral part of workplace denim.

No matter what your taste or comfort level, jeans are here in a big way for fall. Treat them like the fashion go-to item they are and don’t be afraid to mix and match just about any top and shoe. Let your fashion sense be your guide in the office. Your jeans will be appropriate if you make your shoes, top and accessories appropriate. If you decide to pull a day at the beach look, you could find yourself on the losing end of a denim disaster. Even after you’ve been complimented by the boss for being fashion savvy in jeans, don’t dare think it will be okay to show up in the old favorites with the holes. Save those for the weekend.
