Helpful Tips for Planning a Beach Wedding

Helpful Tips for Planning a Beach WeddingHaving a beach wedding may seem like a dream come true but such an arrangement is easier said than done. When the proper steps are taken and everything is planned out, a beach wedding can be the perfect way to say “I do.” But if you don’t do your homework and really commit to the idea of planning out a beach wedding, the experience could be disastrous for your special day.

Getting married on the beach is quite different than getting married in a church, park, or other venue, mainly because you are utterly exposed to the outdoors and if the right steps aren’t taken, you and your guests could regret the decision. However, throwing a beach wedding isn’t impossible but it does take dedication and a lot of planning. The main thing to keep in mind is the weather. Being out on the beach means being near the water and definitely being out in the sun (and don’t forget the sand!). Additionally, being near water means you’re going to get wind of some sort. These are all factors to consider when it comes to where the actual ceremony will take place, where you guests will be seated during the ceremony, and what you, your groom and bridal party will wear.

To make things easier, break down the most important parts first. Let’s start with your vendors and the venue itself. There are tons of beaches to be found but not all are the same. Take time early on to make a list of beaches that may work for your wedding and then devote the necessary time and effort to visit each location. Once you’ve narrowed down your choice, look into vendors that have experience doing beach weddings. The more experienced, the better prepared you’ll be. Take into account how many guests you’ll have and be sure to ask for references. Another factor to keep in mind when throwing a beach wedding is to make it convenient for your guests. If signs are needed to direct people to the actual location of the ceremony, plan this out ahead of time and be sure to get the best directions to include with the invitations. Be sure to let your guests know that the location is at a beach and include wardrobe suggestions as well. Look into having a tent of some sort set up on the beach to cover you and your guests and it goes without saying that sunscreen should play a huge role for everyone.

Now onto wardrobe. Wedding planners recommend avoiding traditional black tuxedos, sports coats made of heavy material, and formal morning suits. These can leave you sweltering under the sun. Beach brides should find a happy medium for their dress. The setting makes it ideal to wear a short wedding dress or one that is about knee length, unless you don’t mind dragging your long dress through the sand. Be prepared for how the elements may damage the material if you do choose a long dress. Needless to say, beach brides shouldn’t wear high heels out on the sand. Instead, opt for some cute flats, stylish sandals, or even go barefoot to really enjoy the setting. Take into account your bridal party as well. One fun way to enjoy a beach wedding is to require everyone to be barefoot. This will eliminate the need for shoes, socks, and brings about a great casual feel to a traditionally formal event.
