Skincare Tips for The Frequent Traveler

Skincare Tips for The Frequent TravelerIf your job or hobbies have you jetting through times zones quicker than most people make it through late day traffic, your hair and skin probably require special attention that you may not be giving as frequent or thoroughly as you should. Your hair, skin and nails all require the same basic lifestyle elements to stay healthy, vibrant and resilient. Frequent travel can strip you of those elements and the essential benefits they bring.

Sleep

Of course this would be number one on the list! And guess what, it’s tied with number two for the first thing that frequent travelers lose. When you travel, you often lose sleep the night (or nights depending on your job, the duration of your trip and the number of family members traveling with you) before you leave. This pattern continues as long flights and time zone changes alter the number of hours available for rest. And once you get to your destination… forget about sleeping then. Vacation or business, there’s lots to do and never enough time to do it. To keep your skin capable of replenishing itself on a daily basis, consider that a little sleep lost on any portion of your travel schedule can result in dehydration – the first missing link in healthy skin, hair and nails.

Water

Tied with sleep for either what ails you or heals you, having plenty of water – not to be confused with just any old fluid – in your system is the key to a healthy glow. You know of course that any old fluid will not do the trick that good old H2O can., especially if you’re flying. And you can’t begin healthy hydration once you settle into your window seat. You’ve got to be drinking more than the recommended daily allowance two to three days before departure. Choose water along with your soda or chardonnay on your flight. Add sliced lemons to your carry-on bag for an extra boost. Be sure to drink plenty of water in the evenings as well. We often forget to hydrate once we hit dinner and dancing.

Product Routine

It’s tempting and convenient to sample all the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner, moisturizers and cleansers when you arrive at the hotel, but beware. You use the products you have as part of your daily skin and hair care regime because they work best with your skin and hair type. Chances are those fancy products in the hotel are not your best choice. They could leave you with dry, frizzy hair and flaking skin, not to mention the risk of sensitivity or allergic reactions. Your best bet for maintaining your glowing skin and silky hair is to pack travel sizes of your own tried and true products.
