The majority of expectant mothers know that their lives will be altered for the duration of their pregnancy. Because of the presence of the unborn baby, lifestyle changes have to be made in order to reduce any risk of jeopardizing its health. In most cases, expectant mothers are told to stay away from virtually all fragrances, however, the truth is that there are some perfumes and scents that new mothers can indulge in that won’t pose a threat to their little one.
Women that love their signature perfumes and fragrances may find the idea of going without this item for the remainder of their pregnancy to be very disappointing. But by being knowledgeable as to which scents are safe for their unborn fetus, they can still keep this part of their lifestyle intact. The first precautionary steps new mothers need to take when trying to find a baby safe fragrance that they can wear is to avoid the majority of over the counter perfumes found in department stores. The chemical makeup of these items can be hazardous to an unborn fetus and can even make pregnant women nauseas.
Women that are used to department store perfume might be at a loss as to what could possibly replace this product in their lives. The answer: essential oils. It is important to note that there are certain essential oils that should be avoided by pregnant women because they contain properties that can be bad for an unborn baby, however, there are a select few that can work wonders as your new perfume or fragrance for the duration of your pregnancy. The main essential oils that are safe for both unborn babies and expectant mothers include citrus, chamomile, lavender and rose. There are massage lotions that are scented with essential oils, which can be used on the skin to release tension and promote relaxation or you can dab a small amount onto your neck, wrists and other hot spots for fragrance - just make sure that you use a carrier oil as well in order to dilute the essential oil so that it does not cause any skin irritation.
The first step is to find out which scents you prefer now that you are pregnant. Many new mothers find that they are drawn to fragrances that they normally hated before being with child and vice-versa, so do not be surprised if you find yourself being attracted to scents you never would have given a second thought about previously. While traditional perfume should be avoided altogether, it is okay for expectant mothers to indulge in body spray and scented lotions. However, the key is to look for lotions and body sprays that not only contain natural, essential oils but that also have lower alcohol content. Learn how to read the labels and if needed, ask for assistance from a sales person in order to properly identify the percentage of alcohol contained in a product.
