How to Make Sure Your Nursery is Germ Free

How to Make Sure Your Nursery is Germ FreeThe last thing any parent wants for their baby is to be around germs. There are a variety of cleaning products available on the market that is guaranteed to kill 99.9% of the germs in your home. However, the best way to keep your nursery free of germs is to know where the most popular hang outs are. When you know where germs like to gather and breed, you can effectively kill them and ensure they don’t come back.

The changing table in your nursery is perhaps the most popular place for germs of all kinds to reside, which isn’t hard to believe since this is where urine, fecal matter and other bodily fluids from your baby are regularly present while changing their diapers. It is important that you not only clean the changing table area thoroughly but that you do so frequently. It is best to clean the changing table after each use. When it comes to cleaning the area, only use gentle disinfectant products or you can turn to hydrogen peroxide. If your nursery uses a removable changing cover for the table, it is essential that you wash the cover often. On a related subject, the trash can in your baby’s nursery is another place where tons of germs can be found. Although the trash ends up being taken out, it is still necessary to properly clean the trash can itself as well. In addition to regularly taking out the trash that accumulates, wash the trash can container outside once a week with disinfectant or with diluted bleach.

When it comes to keeping your baby safe from germs you also need to keep in mind that it is not only the furniture and certain items that you need to be aware of, but yourself as well. Even though it is unpleasant to think about, our hands carry germs and bacteria as well. Anytime your hands come into contact with parts of the room such as the light switch, changing table and crib, you are exposing your baby to any germs you have acquired over the course of the day. To combat this, make sure to wipe down all of the surfaces you touch with disinfectant wipes and wash your hands often.

Needless to say, the crib is one area where your baby spends a lot of time. Because of this, you’ll want to make sure it stays as clean as possible. Wipe down the crib rails and any toys in the crib with a cloth soaked in soap and warm water. This will prevent your baby from germs each time they put their mouth and hands on these areas and items. Wash your baby’s pillows, sheets, blankets and other bedding at least once a week and choose materials that are durable and will hold up to frequent washings.
