Maternity Shopping Tips

Maternity Shopping TipsBack in the day, maternity clothing consisted of finding anything that fit. Expectant mothers were limited in their fashion choices, often resorting to wearing unflattering tops with gaudy prints and terrible-looking, poor-fitting pants with the dreaded elastic waistband. Thankfully, today’s fashion designers are noting that even pregnant mothers still want to feel beautiful and sexy and those needs are now reflected in the latest maternity fashions.

Each woman’s body is different when it comes to being pregnant. You may find that you won’t need to wear maternity clothing until at least four or five months in. When it comes to clothes, it will be all about what is comfortable for you and your growing belly. As with regular clothes shopping, you’ll want to find items that not only flatter your figure but go with your sense of style. Luckily, a majority of maternity fashions are offering the same cute styles and cuts that non-expectant mothers are wearing. Baby-tees, tank-tops and baby-doll shirts are now being proudly sported by pregnant mothers. The old, grandma prints and designs are now replaced by snazzy patterns, flattering stripes and fun polka dots.

While maternity clothing tends to carry a hefty price tag, you can still find quality clothing items for sale or on the clearance racks of your favorite stores. Even the high-priced maternity stores tend to carry one or two racks of discounted items so be sure to shop thoroughly at these stores until you find the clothes you want for the right price. As far as what you should include in your wardrobe you’ll want to have the following: two to three pairs of well-fitting pants, two pairs of shorts or Capri style pants, a handful of flowing skirts of various lengths, two or three dresses and an array of tops. The actual inventory of maternity clothing will vary upon the time of the year. If you are pregnant during the winter seasons, be sure to invest in roomy turtlenecks, flattering sweaters and comfortable pants, as well as a fashionable coat to keep you warm. Being pregnant in the spring or summer will allow for more fashion options, maternity sundresses in vibrant colors and flattering cuts allow pregnant mothers to look and feel beautiful during the warm weather.

In addition to fashionable maternity clothing choices, there are even maternity bathing suits with various designs and styles so you can let loose on the beach or at the next pool party. So say goodbye to the extra large tee-shirt and shorts forever!

Don’t be afraid to show off the curves of your stomach, either. Celebrity mothers have paved the way for expectant moms by donning form-fitting tops and long dresses that hug their curves. Never before has the idea of being sexy while pregnant been in more fashion than now. So feel free to include a sexy, slinky black dress or form-fitting blouse as well. Who says you should hide behind your maternity clothes?
