Taking the Natural Route for Mother and Baby

Taking the Natural Route for Mother and BabyThere aren’t too many things you should trust on your skin, nonetheless that of your baby’s but natural skincare products are becoming a fast-growing alternative to regular skincare. However, not all natural skincare ingredients are good for your baby, but there are a couple that you should check out that will guarantee healthy and happy skin, whether it’s for you or your little one.

The first thing to acknowledge is that not all natural or plant-based products are safe for expectant mothers and babies. The following ingredients should be avoided during and after pregnancy when it comes to mother and baby: basil, clary sage, cedarwood, rose, rosemary and thyme. Now that we’ve gotten the negative culprits out of the way, let’s focus on the natural ingredients that can do wonders for your baby’s delicate skin as well as yours.

There a number of brands that specializes in creating skincare products just for babies. Many of these brands offer products that contain ingredients formulated with organic plant and fruit extracts, soothing oils and other gentle ingredients that work to nourish a baby’s skin. Often these botanicals contain softening and healing properties, as well as essential vitamins and nutrients that make it ideal for caring for the delicate skin tissue babies have. These skincare products are free from artificial dyes, fragrances, and harsh synthetics (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, TEA, DEA, mineral oil and petroleum-based ingredients).

Some of the key natural ingredients used in these products that are safe for use on your baby’s skin include Lavender, Avocado Oil, Mango Butter, Chamomile, Green Tea, Primrose Oil, Aloe, Jojoba Oil and Grapefruit. These botanicals work to soften, pamper and heal.

Avocado oil is rich in proteins, fatty acids, and vitamins A, B1, B2, Pantothenic Acid, D and E. This oil works to soothe and calm both irritated and inflamed skin and scalp. Jojoba oil is easily absorbed into the skin due to its natural properties that work the same way human sebum (oil) does. Jojoba oil works as a great lubricant for skin that is dry. Once applied to the skin or scalp, Jojoba oil leaves a protective film that allows the skin and hair shafts to retain necessary moisture to avoid dehydration and also leaves the skin and scalp feeling soft, supple, and smooth. Lavender works wonders in skincare products for babies due to its natural antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

If you’re still unsure of what ingredients and skincare products you should trust your child’s skin with, visit your pediatrician and get his/her take on the above ingredients and natural skincare in general. They will be able to provide you with the right information to help you make better-informed decisions when it comes to caring for your baby’s skin.
