Turn Your Baby Items Green

Turn Your Baby Items GreenHaving a little bundle of joy comes with a lot of work, not to mention all the necessary items and supplies needed to make your baby happy and healthy. While these items tend to be overwhelming (not to mention expensive!), you can find comfort in knowing that you can also contribute to the Green Movement by using green baby products. Not only will you be doing right by the environment, you’ll also be taking the steps needed to keep your baby truly safe and healthy.

No mother would be able to get through her baby’s life without diapers…and lots of ‘em! In general, traditional diapers aren’t very Earth friendly so if you’re looking for a green alternative to this essential type of undergarments, you’ll be happy to know that you can now purchase reusable diapers. These type of diapers are not only washable, but are made of gentle cotton on the outside, with a flushable diaper refill. Because the refills are not made of plastic, they are completely safe to toss out. The outer lining is good for multiple uses and even come in assorted colors.

You can even stay green while keeping your baby squeaky clean in the bathtub. Start shopping around for special organic and all natural brands of your essential items such as bath wash, bubble bath soap, lotion, shampoo, and diaper cream. Certain fragrances and ingredients are also used in such products to help soothe your baby and promote a feeling of relaxation, making it easier for them to wind down when bedtime rolls around.

One important way to keep your baby safe while staying green is to use special bottles that don’t contain the harmful chemical known as BPA (short for bisphenol A). This chemical negatively affects hormone growth in young children and its presence has been linked to developmental issues including early puberty, hyperactivity, and low sperm count in males. So be sure the bottles you purchase are free of BPA and say so on the label. On the same note, take time to invest in organic, frozen baby food. This type of baby food is sealed in a container free of BPA and is easy to prepare. Simply take out the food, let it thaw and serve.

When the warm weather starts to roll around, you’ll want to make sure that your baby is properly protected against the sun’s harmful rays. But first it helps to choose a sunscreen that is free of harsh chemicals and ingredients that may be potentially toxic. Keep your baby safe during the summer and other sunny days by choosing a sunscreen product that is PABA-free, unscented, and organic. Many organic formulas use ingredients that are all natural and are gentle enough for use on sensitive skin. Make sure the formula protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Many brands have also been tested by pediatricians and ophthalmologists for added safety.
