Manicure/Nail Trends for Fall

Manicure/Nail Trends for FallThis season focus falls once again to nails and manicures and bold, strong color that zings from the tips of our fingers. For quite some time, nail fashion has been barely-there in shades of nude, buff and just plain old short, clean nails. Fall kicks up nail color and nail art reminiscent of the ‘80’s when long, painted nails made as much of a statement as your jewelry. We asked a few of our favorite salon owners what they were ramping up for as fall peeks from just around the corner.

Teens and pre-teen girls are always trying to make some kind of statement and their choice of nail colors and nail art is no different. Despite the fashion trends of nails going virtually unnoticeable, young girls are always coming in looking for French manicures with medium length tips. For fall, we’re expecting an increase in requests for tips in every color imaginable. Along with colored tips, young ladies want nail art that ranges from a glittery line along the based of the tip to fall leaves, pumpkins, Jack-O-Lanterns, and, a big favorite, candy corn. Our nail techs have the widest variety of nail stencils ever and they love being creative.

For active girls and women who are heavily involved in sports, who have infants or who are just too busy for nail upkeep, we are looking for fall to remain steady with clean, well groomed manicures that include long-wearing, chip-resistant colors. Trends affect everyone – even those who think they’re too busy to slow down for a manicure.

For those women who just really enjoy a manicure and the time they spend being pampered, fall is bringing a whole new line of bold, sumptuous colors. This will be the vibrancy of ‘80’s nails with the glam-chic look of ’08. The solid nail colors are far from pastels and electric reds; they are deep browns and oranges, garnet reds, even dark blue and of course gloss black. But think colors that you would see on heavy velvet in a mid-evil castle. Fall is bringing back the rich glamour of early Hollywood.

Nail lengths will range from active (short – just above the tip of the fingers) to medium. The days of the glamour length nails are gone. Also gone are long pointy nails – unless you’re incorporating them into your Halloween costume. Today’s women have too much going on to be stopped by long nails. Teens need to be able to speed text and long nails slow them down. While nail color and nail art are about to take center stage once again this fall, it will be within the respectable fashion limits. To stay trendy and fashionable, choose daring colors and finish with a high shine top coat on both short and medium length nails.
