Nail Care the Natural Way

Nail Care the Natural WayYou don’t always have to turn to the professionals at the nail salon to get healthy and beautiful nails. Sure, the pros do a great job and use the best products, but most of those items contain harsh chemicals that you normally wouldn’t want anywhere near you. If you’re more wary about chemicals coming into contact with your nails, there are plenty of do-it-yourself nail care recipes you can follow that are completely natural.

Suffering from unsightly yellow nails? Instead of spending money on products with hard to pronounce ingredients on the label, all you’ll need is whitening toothpaste and lemon juice. That’s it! In order to create your own nail whitener, simply mix two teaspoons of whitening toothpaste with one teaspoon of lemon juice until it forms a paste. Next, apply the paste to your nails. Leave the mixture on for about five minutes and then rinse off completely under lukewarm water. While the lemon juice works to remove the yellow tinge on your nails, the whitening toothpaste buffs the nail beds as well as brightens your nails’ natural color.

For beautiful fingernails, it’s important to maintain healthy and good-looking cuticles. One of the easiest natural recipes for ensuring you only deal with soft and manageable cuticles involves mixing one teaspoon of vitamin E oil with one teaspoon with olive oil and massing it into your cuticles as well as your nails. If you’re looking for a more involved recipe to really tackle tough cuticles, you can combine one teaspoon of natural clay, three drops of lavender essential oil, and one teaspoon of olive oil until it forms a paste. Use the paste to massage into your nails and cuticles. Be sure to store your cuticle cream in an air-tight and clean jar. Doing this a few times a week or as needed, will keep your cuticles in tip-top shape.

Do your hands and/or feet need a good exfoliating? Now you can make a good quality exfoliating paste by using the following ingredients: one teaspoon of baking soda, two tablespoons of fine sea salt, and two teaspoons of fine, non-flavored oatmeal. Take these ingredients and mix in a bowl with a little bit of water until you form a paste. When the mixture is ready, apply it to your feet and hands and rub gently. Afterwards, rinse with lukewarm water and pat your hands and feet dry.

Natural nail care doesn’t just involve maintaining your fingernails and toenails, they also need pampering. How about a nice massage oil for your fingers and tootsies? Then get out these ingredients and combine in a bowl: two drops of peppermint oil, four drops of rosemary oil, 10 teaspoons of grapeseed oil, and three drops of eucalyptus oil. Warm up the oil mixture and soak your fingers and/or toes for a relaxing and great sensation. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the oil off afterwards and apply a good foot or hand cream to moisturize.
