Vitamin A
A deficiency in vitamin A slows nail growth. If you nails are dry or brittle, you may want to eat more foods rich in vitamin A, or consider taking a supplement. Some foods that are rich in vitamin A include garlic, papaya, parsley, and watercress.
Vitamin B
If your nails are fragile with vertical and horizontal ridges, there is a good chance you are not getting enough vitamin B. Fenugreek, kelp, parsley, and dandelion are all rich sources of the B vitamin.
Calcium
Everyone knows that calcium is critical for bone and cartilage health, making it critical for the health of your nails as well. Try a supplement for the maximum benefit.
Horsetail
Horsetail is an herbal remedy used in ancient Greek and Roman medicine. It strengthens nails with its high silicon content that aids in proper calcium absorption. You can drink a horsetail tea between meals to strengthen the nails made from 2 – 3 grams of the dried herb added to a full tea pot. Boil for 5 minutes and steep for 10 – 15 minutes, then strain. For a stronger herbal infusion, use 1.5 grams in a cup of boiling water, and let it steep for 30-40 minutes. Horsetail is also a source of calcium. Be sure to consume plenty of water while ingesting this herb.
Tea Tree & Lavender Oil
If your nails are plagued with fungus, try blending tea tree oil and lavender oil. Use it as a moisturizer at the base of your nail to fight the parasite.
