New Looks for Nails: Layering Nail Polish Shades

New Looks for Nails: Layering Nail Polish ShadesWith the wide array of nail polish shades in department stores today, it is hard to imagine that you would ever have trouble finding the perfect shade of polish for you. But if you sway towards a creative spirit that likes to make a statement all your own, perhaps layering nail polish shades to create a whole new look is the perfect choice for you. Whether you want to brighten your favorite pink metallic, add shimmer to your shade or simply find the perfect red for you, layering your nail polish colors will offer an unlimited variety in colors for your home manicure pleasure. Here are a few tips to help you achieve a shade that you will truly love!

Get the Shimmer Factor

To make any of your nail polish colors shimmer, you can simply add a sheer glitter over your favorite shade. Pink polish looks particularly pretty when topped off with a glittery topcoat. You can also begin with a metallic base that is lighter than the coat you sweep on top. This will give your nail polish shade additional depth and resolve any of those undertone problems that you usually battle. For example, you can begin with a metallic polish in a neutral beige shade, and add your favorite red hue on top for plenty of dimension and pop.

Shine and Brighten your Pastels

If you love your pink nail polishes, but hate the way they dull within a day, try a brightening technique by adding a coat of white on top of your favorite pastel. The white will not only liven up a pink shade, but you can effectively hide stained nails, so that even yellowed fingertips can enjoy getting pretty in pink. For a funky French manicure, try layering a couple of shades of pink instead of using the traditional white tips. Ooh la la!

Finding your Inner Red

Isn’t it amazing that a color as bright and dramatic as red can be so elusive for so many of us? A true red is hard to come by because many of the red hues can become orange or burgundy when they are paired with the wrong undertones. But now there is a way to say goodbye to those undertones, so that you can enjoy the true red that you were born to wear. Simply begin your manicure with a layer of gold nail polish, and then your red of choice will have an intensely pure effect. If you want a true fire engine red shade, replace that gold coat with an orange one. Rich reds can be achieved by starting with an undercoat of a beige shimmer.

If you have been unable to find your perfect nail polish shade this year, do not despair! With a bit a creativity and some experimentation, you can create your own unique look by layering your favorite nail polish products.
