Winter tends to be a comforting season for plus size women since the clothing often involves a lot of coverage. It isn’t quite the same case when it comes to summertime. Women want to bare shoulders, backs, legs and midriffs but for plus size women, there is more to the idea of celebrating the sun. However, you don’t have to hide behind clothes and stay in the background. There are ways you can wear plus size clothing that will let you feel sexy, flatter your figure and bring you into a spotlight you won’t have to shy away from. It goes without saying that in choosing your plus size summer wardrobe, you’ll want to avoid all horizontal stripes. This design works poorly for full figured women, as it creates a “barrel” effect, which can cause you to look wider. Definitely not what you want. Instead, switch to pinstripes and vertical stripes, which create long and slimming lines. Opt for solid colors, including black of course, and try to use caution when going for certain patterns or polka dots. Too much could be overwhelming.
As far as tops go, look for styles that offer an empire waist. This design means the blouse gathers underneath the breasts, while the rest of the fabric is loose, long and flowing. Empire waist tops, blouses and dresses can hide thicker midsections, while accentuating your bust and chest area in a way that isn’t too revealing. If you want to conceal chubby arms and thick wrists, you’ll love blouses with bell sleeves, which flair out towards the hands so the only attention you get is on your perfectly manicured nails.
In case it’s never occurred to you, the use of accessories can also aid in plus size summer clothing. A good pair of heels creates the illusion of longer, leaner legs, regardless of height. Jewelry-wise, stay away from earrings and necklaces that are large in size, especially if they are circular in design, since this only contributes to a “wide” or “big” appearance. Instead, choose long, Y shaped necklaces that accentuate the neckline and your cleavage. Earrings that are thin or long balance out round cheeks and instead of using belts, which can draw unwanted attention to your midsection, draw the eye upwards with a fashionable scarf in your hair or colorful and fun headband.
