How to Survive the Cold Weather

Winter Skincare and Hair Tips

How to Survive the Cold WeatherNow that the holidays are over and winter is here again, the true winter test begins: how to survive the cold, dry weather with luminous, hydrated skin and shiny, healthy hair. Don`t let the cold weather take its toll on your skin and hair. Here are some suggested products and tips on what to use to help ease the sting of winter and avoid dry, cracked skin and dull, flat, dry hair.

Skin

·    SPF! Just because this is wintertime, the suns rays can still do as much harm as in summertime. Also, just because you spend time indoors doesn’t mean you’re not exposed to UV rays (which can come from computer screens and fluorescent lights). A minimum of SPF 15 or 20 is sufficient for everyday use.

·    SPF Lip Treatment – Most people forget that the skin on the lips is also apt to becoming dry, cracked and burned, so choose a thick formula with repairing ingredients such as shea butter and Vitamin E.

·    Facial, body and lip exfoliator – use once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and reveal more even-toned skin. Tip: use facial and body exfoliators in the morning, which eliminates the need to cleanse first, then exfoliate, resulting in less chance of drying out the skin.

·    A more emollient facial moisturizer – unless your skin is very oily and breakout prone

·    Body and hand butter – these more emollient formulas are more effective than lotions for hydrating and maintaining pH balance.

·    Face or body luminizer – choose a liquid luminizer to help prevent the look of dull, patchy skin. Mix 1-2 drops of luminzer with facial moisturizer, foundation or body lotion to ensure a subtle, even application.

Hair

·    Deep conditioner – a once-a-week necessity for all hair types to help nourish flyaway hair.

·    Hydrating styling product – only needed for dry, coarse hair, such as a leave-in conditioner or styling oil.

·    Dry shampoo – wash hair less often to avoid overdrying and creating staticky hair, but use a dry shampoo to absorb excess oils at the roots and eliminate odors in- between washings.

·    Alcohol-free hairspray.

·    On a “bad” hair day, pull hair into a low ponytail and choose a cute hat!
