Tips for Making Your Fake Lashes Last

Tips for Making Your Fake Lashes LastFake lashes are one of the must have beauty items in any gal’s collection. From simple to outrageous, fake lashes have the ability to completely transform any woman’s eyes. This item can be found at any beauty supply store, drugstore, as well as department store makeup counters and online retailers. Regardless of the style and type you love to accessorize with, it is important to know how to properly maintain your fake lashes so that they continue to look 100% with each use.

Although fake lashes can be found at affordable prices, who wants to constantly spend money on purchasing new ones throughout the year? A mistake made by many women is simply tossing their pair of fake lashes into the trash after each use. While there are lashes that are meant to be disposable, a majority of them can be saved for reuse in the future - if they’re well taken care of.

Step #1: Take Care with Removal

If you’re the type that rips off fake lashes, you’ve already risked doing damage that would make it difficult to successfully wear the lashes again. When it comes to removing the lashes, take care to lift the corner of the lash strip and gently tug until the entire strip comes off. If the glue is keeping it from coming off easily, use your fingertips (or nails if they’re long enough) to slide in between the strip and your eyelid and nudge the strip until it comes free. Being careful during the removal process will help the strip retain its shape. Tugging too hard or yanking the strip off carelessly could cause the strip to twist and distort the appearance of the lashes.

Step #2: Take Off the Glue Gunk

One of the quickest ways to spot a woman reusing fake lashes the wrong way is the obvious appearance of a gunky lash line. This is from the remnants of the lash glue from the last time the fake lashes were used. To avoid this unsightly effect, it is important to remove the glue from your fake lashes immediately after you’ve taken them off. In most cases, the glue should come off easily with your fingertips. You’ll notice how much cleaner the edge of the fake lash strip is once all of the glue is gone.

Step #3: Clean the lashes (if necessary)

Unfortunately, using lash glue can be tricky sometimes, resulting in getting it onto the lashes. To eliminate this problem and restore the clean appearance of the lashes, take a Q-tip and dip it in either rubbing alcohol or liquid eye makeup remover and then apply it gently to the area on the lashes where the glue is. Start from the lash line to the tip of the lashes and repeat this back and forth stroke movement until the glue dissolves. Doing so is also great for removing any mascara that has been applied so you get a fresh look with each future use. If you find that the glue is too tough to remove cleanly from the lashes, consider it a loss and toss the pair.

Step #4: Don’t get them wet!

The quickest way to render a pair of fake lashes unusable is by getting them wet. Always remember to remove your fake lashes immediately before washing your face. To keep them in good shape, it’s ideal to also purchase a special container where you can keep your lashes when not in use. This will keep them from getting wet, damaged or becoming warped/twisted.
