Tips for Wearing Glitter

Tips for Wearing GlitterYou may have experimented with glitter as a little girl or had a ball with them in your high school years. Usually glitter is seen as somewhat juvenile and a trend that should only be sported by teeny-boppers but you can actually pull off wearing glitter when done right. Whether it’s on your face or on your hair, if you plan on donning some sparkle this holiday season, be sure you’re doing so properly.

The secret to successfully wearing glitter is to maintain a good balance. You never want your glitter to dominate the rest of your overall look. When looking for the right glitter-filled makeup, make your choices wisely. Glitter comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors. If you plan on using glitter for some shimmer on your eyes then avoid glitter that comes in huge chunks. You’d be better off with a shimmery eye shadow that has granules of glitter in it already. This allows you to control how much color and glitter you actually want on your eyes. To keep it glamorous, stick to shades of black, grays, or gunmetal, which look great with nude lips.

Want to make more of a statement with your glitter? Then you can add a few hints of sparkle by using a few touches of larger glitter pieces and placing them on the inner and outer corner of your eyes. Or if you’re feeling gustier, you can affix each spec of glitter along your lash line. You can also find false lashes that are already encrusted with glitter or small gems. Just be sure to choose the right kind and make sure that the lash-to-glitter ratio is properly balanced out. It’s okay to let glitter transform your look for a holiday party but you want to still look fashionable and not tacky. Feel free to go overboard with glitter when Halloween comes around - keep it classy for the holidays.

You can also add a touch of glitter to your lip color if you’d rather make a statement with your lips than your eyes. You can find lip colors already infused with glitter and shimmer or you can layer on your regular lipstick and then top it with a layer of gloss with glitter speckles in them. One layer is more than enough - add too much glitter and it will defeat the purpose of wearing lip color in the first place. When choosing glitter in your lipstick or gloss, stay away from huge chunks of glitter. Instead of adding style and flair, it will make your lips look like a kindergarten art project gone wrong. Opt for smaller specs of glitter instead.

Glitter on your fingernails is one trend that has been revived in the past few years. This is one area where you can feel free to go huge with the glitter or keep it simple with smaller speckles. Glitter on nails works no matter the season or occasion so go wild and make a glitter statement!

When it comes to your hair, you can add glitter to make your locks appear sparkly, fun, and flirty. Just be cause how much you add or else you’ll have a heck of a time trying to wash it all out. Look for hair products that come with small specs of glitter that you can spray or smooth onto your strands. If you don’t want to deal with getting rid of the glitter afterwards, you can always opt for a fashionable headband or other type of hair accessories decorated with glitter and other fun sparkles.
