Black Eye Liner
– One look at the runway and you’ll see dark eyes everywhere. Unless you are also planning on walking the runway, dial it down a notch and try lining just your upper lids and extending slightly past the eye for everyday looks. For nights out, try extending the line slightly further.
Faux Lashes
– Sometimes the best solution to fuller lashes is going fake. It’s OK – we give you permission. To get a more understated take on the cat eye, try applying the faux lashes on a slight upward angle and filling in any gap between your lashline and the faux lashes with black eyeliner. Of course subtlety is key here.
Brown Eye Shadow
– For more subtle looks, try some shades of warm brown eye shadow. Brown gives eyes a more understated look, but paired with a beige eyeliner, these shades can give your eyes an understated and natural brightness.
Eyebrow Pencil
– Eyebrow pencils can help add depth and definition to your eyebrows. A trick of the pros is to use two different shades to add texture. If you’re blonde, choose shades of taupe. For brunettes and other hair colors, choose one shade as close to your hair color as possible and another slightly lighter shade.
Facial Highlighter
– Whether it’s a cream, powder or pen, a good facial highlighter is one of the single best tools to have in your bag of tricks. Use it to add shimmer to the cheekbones, the inner corners of the eyes, the centers of the eyelids and the bow of the lips.
Red Lipstick
– Shades of dark red lipstick are branching out from simply night out wear and are now finding their way into everyday looks with daring pairings with pink blush and the bright airy colors of spring. The secret? Look for shades with a brown base. They will blend better and compliment your skin tone.
Body Cream
– Sometimes we spend so much time on the face that we neglect dressing up the rest of our skin. To make your exposed skin pop, try mixing some loose silver or gold powder together with your favorite lotion and rubbing it on your arms and legs to give luster and tone to your limbs.
Shine Spray
– To give your hair that finished look, try some shine spray to bring out the color and highlights that are already there. The key with shine spray is not to overdo it. Too much can leave your hair oily and dull. Try applying the pray to the bottom half of damp hair and comb it through to distribute it evenly.
Rattail Comb
– Speaking of hair, the rattail comb is making a comeback. Use the fine teeth to tease up your roots for increased volume when needed and the pointed tip to create sharp parts when going straight and sleek.
Hair Accessories
– Sometimes the piece that sets your look over the top is something as simple as he right barrette or headband. Try a barrette with a classy updo to create something a little bit different for your next night out.
